Advice for first time trying on dresses

MissRachael, 4 April, 2015 at 12:03 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello

I'm looking for some advice from people who have been through the dress shopping experience! I've managed to pin my bridesmaids down and get an afternoon where they are all free and I've made an appointment at a shop which looks lovely. I was thinking that afterwards we could go for some afternoon tea and have a nice afternoon. There is another shop on the way back which looks nice so I am thinking about booking there too. I don't really know what style I am after and I know lots of people completely change their mind after trying on dresses so want to try on a few completely different styles. Do you think that two appointments is too much in one day? I think appointments last around 1/1.5 hours so that would be up to 3 hours of me trying on dresses and my bridesmaids sitting around.

Thanks

I'd probably just do the one unless it's been really difficult to get them all together.

I bought new undies and took a strapless bra with me. I hadn't intended on buying a strapless dress but did in the end! Allow yourself to be guided by the assistant. They do this everyday. My dress was one I hadn't considered at all. The assistant brought it to me and suggested I try it. I was quite anti but as soon as it was on I knew it was the one. Me and my sister ended up in tears over it!

Try and relax, you will have a couple of hours being dressed by a total stranger. I'm really self conscious and was dreading it but she was so great that I soon relaxed into it.

    Have a great day!

I did 3 in one day and it was fine, after doing 2 the day before. I was just with my mum and brother so may be it could be different if you have your bridesmaids with you, depending on how many you have. I would recommend doing as much as you can in one day, even though it will be a bit tiring. It's entirely likely you won't find what you want in one shop and will have to go again anyway, and it sounds like it's not like your BMs are on hand easily. You can easily do 2 shops and afternoon tea, I would definately recommend trying to get an appointment at the other shop. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. It has been hard to get everyone together but I don't want it to be tedious for them. I have 5 bridesmaids and I knew Saturday afternoons would be tricky as everyone is busy. I think I will have this one afternoon with everyone then just take one or two along to any other shops and not worry if everyone is free.

I'm not getting married until next June so I know I have ages but just wanted to get an idea so that I know what I should be looking for.

I only have a black strapless bra but I suppose I could put it in my bag just in case. I think I have some suck in spanx type knickers, are they a good idea do you reckon?

My strapless was black too. I didn't bother with big pants...too uncomfortable for the day!

I would advise to go in with an open mind and the same as the others have said with the strapless bra. I told them the martial I wasn't Kean on and they picked out a few for me to try and myself and mum also picked out a couple. I would say if you think it looks ok on the hanger try it and maybe ask your bridesmaids to pick a couple between them for you to try.
