Honeymoon gift lists...

sara.jo, 2 January, 2011 at 08:44 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi there, I wondered if any of you are planning on asking guests to put towards your honeymoon, should they want to give a gift instead of having a proper gift list? This is what we would like to do, and I thought travel companies would offer this service online so people could pay it off that way, and also so you could see what people have given, in order to thank them after the wedding... But I can't find anyone that does that. Kuoni only say guests can buy a gift card and you would then get this refunded from your payment after, meaning we would have to pay the total amount ourselves beforehand, or virgin said people can phone and give the booking ref and pay off bits, but don't offer a list of payments, meaning you don't know who has given and who hasn't. Any ideas? thanks!

We're with Thomas Cook and are doing this. With them the guests call Thomas Cook and give the reference, then they can pay over the phone and they get listed on our file so that we can see who paid what and how much etc.

We dont need anything really as we recently bought our house and stocked it with all the classic things you'd put on a guestlist!

I have booked my honeymoon with kuoni and will be using www.buy-our-honeymoon.com/ to setup a honeymoon gift list online. This allows you to create your own gift list with things on it that you would like to do and then you can then ask your guests to pay by cheque, bank transfer or paypal (but this incurs a charge).

    Hope this helps.

There are quite a few out there and most will be able to provide you with a list of who paid what (for thank you cards...)

We have a pack from Travel Counsellors who charge £25 to set up the list but you also get cards to put in your invitations and thank-you cards included in that.

Others charge a % from each of your guests, others charge a % of the total value and some offer fee free if your guests donate more than a set amount.

Others that I have used for family weddings have been Honeymoney and First Choice - both of which you could specify certain things like a traditional gift list such as upgrades, excursions, champagne etc.

I've gone with Trailfinders, but I think they work much the same way as Kuoni (and maybe all travel co's) in that the holiday needs to be paid 8 weeks before you leave so if people don't contribute to the lost before that you will need to pay it all yourself.

Then dependant on what money is credited to your list they will give you this onto your debit/credit card to the value of the honeymoon, and anything over that is issued to you as a giftcard.
