underwear!!

AuntieBJ, 21 August, 2013 at 15:07 Posted on Planning 0 17

Can I ask, what is everyone's preference? Basque or bra? My dress is strapless and I'm a busty girl. Last thing I want is to feel unsupported or uncomfortable so would probably feel best in a bra but love thebidea of a basque! Trouble is, they're so expensive, I want to be sure its worth it before I purchase!!

I couldn't wear a basque all day I'd feel so uncomfortable - I am going for comfort in the day then will whip out the good stuff later :-)

Basque is typically better because it supports the bust and stomach while the bra supports the bust. Debenhams do some good basques Look at for the sales xxx

My stomach definitely needs support! Four kids all of good weights means it doesnt exactly look toned and smooth!

Wedding was in August and I didn't want to be too hot on the day, so chose to wear a bra. Glad I did as I was still baking even with just that.. was sorely tempted to remove it halfway through the evening, but couldn't bare undoing all the buttons at the back of the dress, they took so long to do up in the first place!

How does your dress do up? I liked the idea of a basque but my dress is lace up and will be done up very tight so a basque would be the last thing I'd want underneath. I'll just be going for a pretty strapless bra.

I was planning on a basque, but then realised with a tie up dress it might be a bit too tight! I'm hoping that I can get some cups sewn in - don't really have much to support, so just need 'something'!

Its a corset back but needs alterations. I was thinking of wearing the underwear at fittings so hopefully that would sort out any tightness issues. The wedding is September 22nd so, knowing the British weather it could go either way!

I defo wouldn't want to wear a basque under a wedding dress! If your dress is boned I'd have thought it would be fairly uncomfortable.

I'd suggest a decent strapless bra but in all honesty once your dress is properly fitted I can almost guarantee you won't feel 'unsupported' even without a bra

Hey! like you im a busty girl and didn't know what to do. i had a lace up dress as well and went for a basque.

I originally went to rigby and pellar but their basques were more like corsets and there was so much of the ribbon at the back it would have been a nightmare. I then went to bravissimo and got a basque from them. there was enough ribbon to do me up tightly and tie a small bow at the bottom. the dress then laced up easily over this without feeling too tied in.

Maybe buy a basque and a bra and take them to a dress fitting and see what works. then just take back the one you won't use

Thats a good idea, apart from the temptation to keep both anyway lol! I'm on a miniscule budget so probably should go with something I would wear again really. Hmmm think I'll take a wander round the shops and see what I can find

I have a Maggie sottero dress and at every fitting I have not needed a bra as the dress fits around the bust area and keeps everything in, im not the smallest of people I have a 34E/F bust, as long as the dress fits nicely you shouldn't need to wear a bra or basque

I'd love extra support for my tummy when wearing a dress but i'm scared i'd faint in the heat after I felt how heavy wedding dresses are haha.
Hopefully the dress will give you all the support you'll need but i'd definitely try bra on first and see if you feel ok before buying a basque, although if you were planning a sexy night then it might not be money wasted anyway Smiley winking

I don't know how comfortable I'd be going braless! Havent gone a day without one for nearly 30 years so I think I'd worry about it all day. Having said that, I don't want to be uncomfortable either! Omg this is way more complicated than I thought!!!!

Got my underwear! Very wisely, as it turned out, went for a fitting first. Haven't had one for a good couple of years and been wearing a 40D for ages. Turns out I'm an F!!!! Seriously cannot praise boux avenue enough. The best experience of buying undies I've ever had. They gave me loads of advice and wrapped my purchase with rose petals and smellies so it will stay fresh and gorgeous. Bra it is Smiley winking

Yes I have my dress but it needs alterations so hoping if I wear my undies at fittings, I'll get it just right! If I find a bra is not needed I'll know but still have a beautiful set so can't lose!
