The 16 did come up a bit smaller. I bought the 16 for my bridesmaid who is normally a 14, although she is quite broad around the top half.

Yes. the bow is just a sash thats been tied at the front. So you can remove the sash altogether ,or tie the bow at the back (which I think looks better)!

Last question (sorry) could you measure the widest part of the bust so I know whether to go for size 12/16.
