Driving licence name change - i hare forms!

GregorsGirl60, 10 May, 2013 at 16:01 Posted on Just Married 0 9

As you can probably tell I am having issues filing in the D1 change of name form for my driving licence. Basically I want to know from those who have done it - do I have to verify my ID afresh and send my passport AND my marriage certificate? Or do you just have to prove the change of nameand so just send the MC? Ive read the leaflet, Ive been online but nothng says explicitly YOU NEED TO DO THIS!

I think I am just nervous of being parted from such an important document so soon! So nervous about putting it in the post!

Help!

I just sent MC and had it all back within a week. They send themnew driving licence and MC back separately, although mine arrived in post same day.

I was going to do mine online until I saw the administration fee - FIFTY QUID - so I shall wait until I absolutely have to. Fifty quid indeed. Outrageous.

    Oh great.

My licence expires middle of next month so I'm having to pay to renew it. Then in 10 or so months I'll be changing my name so it'll be another £50 on top.

I'm also going to be renewing my passport soon (due for renewal in a couple of years so doing it slightly early to go on honeymoon as a Mrs. Thought it'd be cute, now it's just another expense!).

All these things you sometimes don't budget for! Grrr.

    Hi Ladies,

I was looking at the cost too, but just found out that it's free to change your name on your driving licence. I can't post a link to the page, but look out for the .gov.uk pages in search results. I think there are some naughty companies who charge an admin fee to pass your application on to the DVLA, which might be where you've seen the admin charge.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi,

Thought I best follow this up. I didn't send my passport off, just filled in the name and address details and sent my MC. All came back about a week or two later.

I didn't have to pay anything - I think you only need to pay if you want to update the picture at the same time?

    Cheers all!

Based on my experience, when I changed my name in my Driver's License, I submitted my Marriage Contract. Smiley smile

I've just had mine back although I have a completely different name; not my old one, not my new one, but an entirely made up surname!!!

Me and h2b have just changed both our addresses on our licences and we didn't have to pay a thing!

We just sent off the little slips on the bottom of our paper licenses xx
