Wedding dress storage

BeccaO2B, 5 January, 2009 at 12:26 Posted on Just Married 0 4

I got married in September and have had my dress cleaned but now I'm not sure what to do with it! I've heard that dresses should be stored in acid free boxes and have seen a few on the internet but they seem quite expensive. Does anyone have any storage tips?

Thanks!

I too have heard about the acid free box and acid free tissue paper for storage. It may seem expensive but it depends how much you want to preserve your dress, I know people who haven't done this and their dress has become discoloured over time (several years though I think). If you have somewhere to hang it I think Cotton dress bags are also good and keep it out of the light.

All theory for me though - mine is still hanging on the back of my bedroom door waiting to be cleaned since October. I have seen somewhere online that clean and pack it for you ready for storage for around £80 so I may look into that.

    Lots of ramble but HTH

Thanks. Will look into the cotton dress bag idea. My dress came back from the cleaners in plastic and I know that's a no-no for storage so I'll have to find something else. Dress is hanging on back of bedroom door at the moment so I need to get it packed away!

Hmmm, if you find out can you post it? Mine's still under a duvet cover on the wardrobe at my mums! Oops

    Hi,

I store my wedding dress in a cotton quilt cover and it has been stored for 5 years this year, had a look the other week and it is as good as new.

    Hi,

After I got married in '05 I used this company for cleaning and boxing up my dress. http://www.ukweddingdresscleaners.co.uk/ My SIL and my sister have also used them and their service was fab. There are several choices of boxes for dresses depending on your budget.
