Getting Wedding Dress cleaned and boxed

MegMog, 23 of March of 2013 at 10:28 Posted on Just Married 0

We got married at the beginning of the month and it got pretty grubby round the bottom so I need to get it cleaned and boxed up ready to be put in the loft! My dress cost £500 so not mega expensive and so I don't really want to spend too much getting it cleaned. I've been looking online and found a few that will collect it, clean it, box it and courier it back to my home. But wondered if anyone can recommend a company they've heard good (or bad!) experiences of! I'm not sure about just using the local dry cleaner as I'd rather use a specialist wedding dress cleaning company.

Thanks,

I've only just came across your post today and, given the time since you posted, I reckon this may be a bit late but I wanted to share with you the experience I had with the company I used.

As per my ticker, I'm not married yet but I bought a dress that was pre-owned, never worn but slightly grubby and with makeup marks so I needed to have it cleaned before the wedding, after the alterations. My dress has a label that specifies the cleaning process (Baptiste) and the recommendation of Terrington Burchett so I wanted to do everything by the book! They are an online company so I was a little sceptical, the price was £80 with an additional £20 for pickup/dropoff and, as I had heard some companies charge even more, I was a little afraid! The £80 is the basic package with a box that is not recommended for long term storage but they also offer specialised boxes which are more expensive. I contacted them a number of times online - their website is here: https://www.ukweddingdresscleaners.co.uk/ and they replied really quickly and professionally. I then started the process to get it cleaned. You need to know the dress designer and style as they use that to decide if additional costs are applicable (if there is particular material/embellishments that may need to be treated differently/removed before cleaning), if you are unsure, they will ask for photos. Initially, you just have to put through the order and then you contact DPD for collection yourself. They give you forms to fill in the details about the soiling of the dress and you also get one that DPD have to sign as proof they have your dress. The next step then is for Terrington Burchett to contact you and discuss the dress cleaning. My dress has a loose corsage thing on the side so I was told they may need to remove it and re-attach and if so, if would be an extra £5. I then paid the £100 over the phone and a little extra for a credit card charge and they advised 10 - 14 working days. I actually got the dress back in 6 working days and in immaculate condition. They had it wrapped in lots of tissue and very carefully pressed, there wasn't a hint it had ever been even tried on! I was amazed with the service I got and couldn't recommend them enough. They also cleaned the dress without needing to remove the corsage so no extra charge. When my wedding is done, I'll be getting them to clean it again for definite!

Hope this helps or if not, maybe someone else might get some use!
