Wedding and honeymoon blues

Hannah, 1 May, 2023 at 15:04 Posted on Just Married 0 3
So I got married on 07/04/23. It was the most perfect day ever and nothing went wrong. The sun was shining all day and it was pretty warm!
Since getting back from our honeymoon, I can’t seem to shift this sad feeling that everything is over. We went to Florida for our honeymoon and it was the best.

I love planning stuff as I did all my decorations myself!!
I keep saying what’s next in our life? I feel like I need something to look forward to!

I think it's more common than people realise - for months you have been planning and working toward a major event and now...it's all over!

It's healthy to sit with the feeling for a little while, because we all need to learn that life can't be a succession of big, exciting events! But it can help to have something smaller to work towards or look forward to. Maybe start a new hobby, plan your next holiday or find a DIY project to do in the house or garden.

This is completely normal, but that doesn’t necessarily make it easier to deal with.

I got married the week before you - as with you, it was the most perfect, incredible day! I had read about post-wedding blues beforehand, so was expecting it, but it’s still challenging. At one point I was standing in front of the magazine stand in the supermarket, where I’d normally look for wedding magazines, and just thought to myself, “I have no idea who I am now, I don’t know which magazines I’m meant to get.” It was a really unsettling feeling.

I’ve spoken to my husband about it, and he has helped by throwing us both into other projects, but not ignoring the wedding. We decided that this summer, we’re going to host lots of family and friends at various events in our house/garden. We spent a chunk of our wedding money on a decent barbecue, and we now need to get the house and garden in order. So when the weather is nice, we’re working in the garden, and we have also been to see some kitchen designers to get our kitchen up to scratch. It’s really helping because it’s another big project to plan.

We’ve also set ourselves some fitness goals, and have spent the bank holiday weekend visiting health clubs to see if we want to join any - it kind of feels like venue shopping again. We’re getting some new spreadsheets going to work out finances and it’s making me feel like I have something else to focus on.

I also thought about the skills I started to work on when I was making things for wedding, and seeing if I want to develop any of them further. I did my own wedding flowers, amongst other things, and spent so much time researching, buying equipment, practising, that it feels like a huge shame to let those skills go to waste!

    Hi Hannah,

    Congratulations on your wedding!

I've read that this is a common feeling. I love planning myself and having things to look forward to. I think after our wedding in July I will start looking at holidays for next year. I love looking for best hotels and flights. Finding the best deal that is also top quality. Hope you find something to keep you busy.
