Wedding Photography

Beth, 20 January, 2022 at 18:34 Posted on Wanted 1 32
Hi all
Is it naive to think I can get a photographer for £600-£800?
I only want a digital option (no albums to be made) but its looking like its £1000+ which I really don’t have budget for.We would want a the photographer from 2pm and happy to look at half day options. Thanks!

You may get one but for me, the picture are a big part of capturing the day for future memories so I cut elsewhere to get the one we wanted. Ours is 1200 for 10 hours coverage, full digital rights and a 90 page printed album. It is probably worth calling around and seeing what package can be achieved for your budget but bear in mind they can only do one a day so the fact you only want from 2pm is not likely to reduce cost as they can't do another wedding on the same day

Not naive but does depend on your wedding! Ours is within your budget but it’s a weekday wedding and we’re having 5 hours of coverage and no physical delivery (essentially for us this meant no coverage of the meal which we were happy with!)

Just to reassure you I know lots of photographers do offer cheaper packages for half day coverage so if you shop around you may be able to find something.

You might want to look at people who are a bit newer to wedding photography as they are likely to be cheaper but definitely look at what you’re getting for the cost, even digital only can be expensive given how long it takes to edit the photos. You might decide a little bit more is worth it to make sure you have rights to the photos or they will be edited.
Our photographer had an unexpected discount for our venue given they live nearby and love it there so you might want to look out for things like that too.

It depends where you are and when your wedding is. You're more likely to get photographers offering half day packages out of season or midweek. Our photographer did a half day, but only offered that Monday to Thursday.

We found that for a full day, photographers were ranging in price from £700 to £3000 in our area (South Wales). Our half day package cost us £450. It might be worth popping a post on your local community social media pages to ask for recommendations.

Ours is £1250... digital only, full day coverage (no hour limit, as early or as late as needed). It shocked me too when I started looking around, but I feel like after the venue the photographer is the next most important thing. The photos are going to be there for the rest of your life, possibly passed down the through generations, I wouldn't want to risk it and would rather save that money elsewhere. For example, we have a low-ish headcount (it's amazing how much cutting even 5-10 people saves you when you consider the food and table decor costs!) and are having a small wedding party (to save on the cost of dresses, bouquets and flowers).

That being said, research photographers in your wedding area to get a guide on the average prices. Our area ranged from £1100-£1700, so we felt like our guy was a good price within that standard range. Anything cheaper I would be questioning why (could be inexperience, but equally could be something horrible like a scammer), anything more expensive I'd be tempted to haggle as you know they're overpriced when you're knowledgeable about the other options.

Definitely shop around as we paid £800 and got an album and all the photos on a memory stick for that. We were recommended a photographer who advertised himself as a pet photographer but also did weddings and had wedding as well as pet photographs to show us what he did. He also took us out to the local park a month before the wedding to get us used to the idea of having photos taken.

I am using a couple who run a business 'Your Big Day' and they do a full day coverage, from morning to the end and was £695

This is all digital and they do multiple offers for different packages. They cover pretty much anywhere and everywhere, and are really friendly. Hope this helps

I looked at (but didn’t end up using) Big Day Productions. They’re basically a management company for photographers, but they have some packages which would suit your needs and budget. Can’t speak for their work personally, but when I was looking they had good reviews. Good luck finding something!

Hi! I was shocked how expensive photography was! And I searched and searched and searched to find one that was good with a reasonable package! I think most charge around £1000 for a package, ours is £1250 but she has included an engagement shoot which we had and was amazing! Really good idea to get used to being in front of the camera and getting to know your photographer before the big day! I’m now so glad we picked her. But overall, yes! They are a lot more expensive than I originally thought!
Good luck on finding your photographer Smiley smile x

I'm very late to this thread, but I had a quote from a woman in Glasgow (we didn't go with her in the end, but she was very good), for £800 for 10 hours of shooting. Her name was Katerina Barvirova (I dunno if she's local to you or would travel) and I found her on MyWed. There were quite a few decently priced ones on there so it's worth a look.

Caron Saunders based in Hertfordshire. Check her website. She has packages and she’s highly recommend to me. We booked her. I don’t want all that getting ready but nor all evening so she’s tailored a package for me at £700 including all the digital and an album.

It depends on your area but we got a digital only package for £745 and I love our photographer and his style. We chose not to have bridal prep photos as I personally don’t like them and will never look at them all skipping that saved us a little bit of money. You should be able to find a photographer in your budget if you shop around.

I think I could shoot weddings for half my normal rate by not having spare backup equipment, and the spares are of equal quality to what I am using. Cameras, lenses, flash, battery. A lot of it I even have spares of spares.

I have seen requests for help from people shooting a wedding that needed someone to come and lend them a lens or flash as theirs had gone faulty and they had no decent spare.

Roughly for every 1 hour of shooting for me there is another 3 hours of editing, as I remove spots and blemishes signage - swap shut eyes with open

, see sample photo editing here .

So I could do it cheaper by not doing so much editing. Another way I could shoot cheaper is to send all my images from the day to a 3rd party in another country to do it for pence per image for me.

Albums vary massively in price to the photographer from £50 to £800, I can only guess that you will not be getting the £800 one with a £900 package Smiley winking . Professional quality prints literality only cost pence too. A social media file creation is a keyboard press so any of that shouldn't actually greatly add to the cost.

I don't think its unrealistic - I have definitely seen oa kages for that amount. But they are often half day or 6 hour packages rather than full day.

Hello, we used them for our wedding September 2023. Absolutely awful, please don’t use them!! I wish we could turn back time and do the same. The guy Adam who correspondence for the business doesn’t do half the shoots and sends a random freelance photographer, we only received 400 of over 1000 pictures taken, the edits are awful and he is so rude and unprofessional. It took nearly 4 months to receive our pictures after constant chasing! I tried to leave a bad review on his Facebook page but it never made it! He doesn’t even have a website anymore (did when we booked in 2020)

    Hi,

We are paying our photographer £800 starting at 2pm. Our ceremony is at 3pm. He will stay until after the first dance which will be 7pm. I didn't want the getting ready shots so he reduced the price by £200. Having said that I notice that his fees if booked now have gone up to £1,500 instead of £1,000 for a full day which I suppose is average.

I used Cream Wedding Photography who are on here they are cheaper which I questioned.

They Have been established for 20 years across the UK and you can easily get a full day, edited images and we chose the downloaded images option for less than £700
