2 dresses?

Adele, 12 June, 2022 at 17:20 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi everyone. Just wondering is it common to have 2 wedding dresses? One for ceremony and one for evening? X

I think it is an american thing, i did toy with the idea but I decided I wanted my evening guests to be able to see my dress from the day, also the cost and logistics of changing were a bit of a faff. Some people have detachable skirts, so you have a sheath dress underneath and have the big skirt for the day and then take it off, so you technically have 2 dresses in one, so could be an option if you want to change your look. I was so in love with my dress that i didn't want to take it off!

    Hi Adele,
I've not been to a wedding where the bride changes to a completely different dress but I have seen like a skirt coming off to and have a another dress underneath for the evening. Or one the had like a lace top with sleeves come of in the evening.
If you want 2 dresses I think you should go for it . Do whatever makes you happy 😊

My friend had a different dress for the evening as she said the day dress was too heavy or something (it was many years ago now so I can't remember the exact reason). Everyone else has kept the same dress, but at the end of the day it's up to you and whatever makes you most comfortable.

I'm planning on just wearing my wedding dress all day - I like it too much, it's the only day I can wear it, and it was so expensive not to make the most of it! HOWEVER, I am planning on packing a white sundress/similar that I either already own or know I would re-wear just in case I get absolutely boiling and need to change later in the evening to keep me dancing or in case of emergency like if someone spills red wine down me - I'm very much hoping I won't need it but I think knowing I have a back up will take away some stress.

My cousin had a large wedding and got married in a big church so had a dress with a long train and long veil but then changed her dress to a more fitted dress for the evening. It was much easier for her with her ceremony dress being quite big. You could alternatively buy a dress that has a detachable train? X

I’d say it depends on what you’d like and what your budget is. At the end of the day, it’s your wedding and totally your choice whether you have 1 dress or 5 dresses (though you might spend more time getting changed than seeing guests in the instance). The only thing that really matters is that you’re happy and feel fabulous 😊

I’m having two dresses. My first dress is much more traditional for our church service, I’m then changing into something more fitted and glam for the evening - first dance onwards. It wasn’t expensive though, it’s an asos dress x

Thank you for this. I have a very formal dress for the ceremony and have a more comfortable and floaty one as a second dress. But I like the second dress so much I will probably get changed quite early. It will also be better to eat and drink in. It's good to know peoples thoughts because I was thinking am I being too extravagant having 2?! 😂 asos have some gorgeous dresses x
