You sound very organised. Well done you. We don't have an issue with the date (so far!) But my stepmum has turned her nose up at a few suggestions as she is quite traditional and we are pretty anti traditional! Luckily she isn't paying anything and therefore has no right to a say in anything :-)

Morning everyone! Welcome to all new brides, I've added you to the list now ?

Good to see lots of you getting organised! We have a viewing booked at a venue on Saturday, that's about it for now though. Moving day in 12 days, eek!

I am a bit bored and feel like I should be doing something but I dont think there is anything I can do right now.

Just as a recap, we have the venue and registrar booked. table decs, chair covers, sweet cart, popcorn machine, choc fountain and photo booth booked. Photographers more or less confirmed, meeting him next week for our engagement photo shoot to make sure we like how we look on his pics. Suits are booked. DJ is booked.

I feel like I should be doing something but at the same time it feels too soon to do the things that are left to be done. I found BM dresses I like but its obv too early to get those.

So what can I do to fill the wedding planning void?

This is the first wedding ive joined & im glad bcos I have no idea what I should be looking at right now!

Venue, photographers, humanist deposits paid. About to pay the caterers but theyve guaranteed my date for me.

We get married 04.06.16, but im unsure what to even do at this stage!

I hope my fellow brides could share some advice xxx

Wow there seems to be a lot of organised 2016 brides! I feel lazy haha lol! We've only done a few things, our save the dates are made and we're working on our invitations and we've only paid the deposit on our venue, we have our photographer but haven't even paid a deposit yet. My OH is so layed back he's almost horizontal so it makes sorting things out for our wedding extremely difficult as he keeps on saying "oh we have plenty of time yet." Or "It's not urgent" or "Leave it for another night, I'm tired".

Argh frustrating!!

We've gone ahead and booked quite a bit so far. We've got the venue, registrar and photographer sorted. We've also put the deposit down for our cake and managed to get the last available slot with the lady making it for that weekend - were getting married August 2016, its insane! Also just put the deposit down for our candy cart and now in the middle of sorting out a photobooth and starting to look at wedding cars. ?

Wow, can you whip my OH into shape please? I keep trying to organise stuff but he just isn't interested, we're August 2016 too (13th) and so far have paid deposit on the venue, booked a registrar and got a few decorationy bits, that's it.

Managed to get the OH to attend a consultation with me to see a cake lady at the weekend (it's food of course he'd say yes)! So hopefully we'll get a deposit down too!

I have one of those types of H2Bs. He thinks because we said 2016 it means nothing has to be done until late 2015. Trying to tell him that actually, it's kind of important that we start looking at our options now is like talking to a brick wall. Except I think the brick wall might have started to comprehend that by now, haha. I'm not worried about dresses or suits or shoes or decorations yet, just the important things like togs and venue and caterer... At least he's not telling me to shut up when I'm talking about it though, so there's some positive stuff happening there

I felt the exact same way when we passed the 2 year mark! ? it feels so exciting!! ?

You ladies are sooooo organised!! We're still venue hunting and the only thing we really have confirmed is our DJ as my friend is doing it for us!!

I've just caught up with this thread and am impressed at how organised everyone is. We've been engaged 5 weeks now and I've been ill for four of them...! Turns out I had glandular fever, so have been off work for the last month. This week felt much more human so used the time researching, getting lots of wedding brochures and info from venues. OH and I went to see our first venue yesterday and ended up booking it. It was everything we were looking for and well within budget.

We were hoping to be married on 11 June 2016 (I'm on the list already!) but all Saturdays, and Fridays, in 2016 were booked so we were able to hold the 12th instead - a Sunday. We had the choice of Sundays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The venue were holding it for 7 days for us to think about and by the time we got home we realised that we were never going to find somewhere we both like as much as this, so we phoned and paid the deposit. And now we just need to save for the rest! So we booked exactly 2 years to the day. It was really exciting and I can't wait to get cracking on the rest of the plans now

So please can my date be changed on the list from 11 June to 12 June? Thanks

Pointless post but a bit of an update from me ... we ordered our wedding rings last week and yesterday my silk flower bouquets arrived and they are absolutely gorgeous. With all the major things booked we are getting the bits and pieces slowly but surely. My poor mum's spare bedroom has become my personal bridal boutique lol !

So, got engaged in January.

Looking to getting married in 2016 in the summer, haven't settled on a date yet.

Just wondering how much other 2016 brides have done. Ideally would like to book the church and venue by September and maybe look for a photographer.

Any sugestions?

Those I would say are the 3 main things to get booked, as they can usually get booked by others fairly quickly especially photographers.

Mrswalshtobe12 I think that sounds reasonable. We're summer 2016 - 2 years, 1 month today! - and have already booked our church. Venue isn't booked but is close to being.

As for me, following on from the above - we viewed the 'new' venue this weekend (backstory in this thread for those who are interested). I am coming round to the idea more now, it is a lovely place and suits our needs for half the price of the other venue. It does make a lot of sense and I think we'll end up booking it soon, I just need to check a few things. Am off to make another thread on that now actually!

Glad everyones plans are going well (ours have ground to a halt, really must remember to call tog!) have finished uni for the year so its just the full time job to fight for wedding planning time lol!

Sadly, I think I broke my hand last week messing around with OH and some inflatable toys (eg, re-enacting the TV game show gladiator, with the sticks? Yeah that - but with shorter sticks. Long story short, I missed and punched him in the back of his hand... Engagement ring is now on my other hand as its too swollen... feels weird, dont like it

We've found our venue, yay!! Holding the date and will be paying the deposit this week!

Had a change of plan on date though as originally were going to go with a Winter Wedding but our venue has 9 acres of beautiful gardens so have decided on Sunday 3rd April 2016.

So some of you may remember we were seriously thinking that we want a humanist ceremony despite booking a registrar to do a civil ceremony. Well I was talking to my humanist celebrant friend today and she has offered to do it for free! We just need to pay her travel expenses and a night in a hotel, which would be £150 tops. That's in contrast to £480 for a civil ceremony. Bonus! Now we just need to see if the Government decide to make Humanist ceremonies legally recognised, if they do we will just have to pay for the marriage certificate. If they don't, we will have to make a visit to the registry office the day before the wedding and do the legal bit. Not sure how much that would cost.
