50 year old bride

joolz50, 2 August, 2011 at 00:37 Posted on Planning 0 20

Can a 50 year old frump look good in a wedding dress? I am getting married the day after my 50th birthday, and don't want to look ridiculous. Any older brides out there with any advice?

    Age is but a number.

All you need to do is find a dress that suits you, and flatters your figure. Which, in all honesty, is exactly the same as every other bride from 18-80 does when they choose their dress.

A random bit of googling found this - I'm sure they're much older than 50.

Will this wedding be your first?

You'll know what styles you like, so you know that you'd never pick anything that would make you "Frumpy" And besides, A bride Always looks fabulous on her wedding day! (and according my OH, the bride has always looked fabulous to the groom!)

Hi.. I will be 44 when we get married next year and I will be wearing whatever I fall in love with (havent been dress shopping yet) have what you want and dont worry about what anyone else will think and I am sure you wont look "frumpy" at all x.

Its your day, you dont want to look back and think I wish I had "this" instead of what I thought I would need due to age etc... go wild and have FUN! Smiley smile

You certainly do not look it!

Re the OP; of course you will not look frumpy! Age has nothing to do with being a bride!

I'll be 45 on the day of our wedding.

Like AJ & RKB be have said you will already know the style that suit's you so all you need to do is carry that over to your wedding day choice.

I wear a lot of 60's/70's clothes, so rather than go for a traditional wedding dress i'm having something made.

Just go for something that you feel comfortable in, your heart will tell you what's right as soon as you try on 'the one'

    Good luck xx

My auntie was in her 40's when she got married and looked stunning! She wore a kind of sheer white jacket over a floating wedding dress and no veil just a tiara. She looked beautiful I'm sure you will too Smiley smile

Well obviously you need to consider the dress carefully then! There are loads of dresses that would flatter someone older, plenty of accessories if you want to cover your arm/shoulders. If you're set on a dress you'll find something. Just enjoy the shopping experience.

Why should an older bride feel any less fabulous than a younger one?! As long as you FEEL great it will shine through.

I will have just turned 46 when we get married in 2 years time, and did go through the whole "Am I too old to be a bride in full blown wedding dress etc" dilemna, but then I thought what the hell, its our day, no matter how old we are we should be able to do/have what we want and I'm sure you will look stunning in whatever dress you choose.

    enjoy!

I'll be 48 next month and I've got an ivory shantung silk wedding dress complete with a train. It hugs my boobies and makes my waist look really small. I love it! You know your style of dress. Don't let your age make you think that you have to buy a 2 piece suit. Get a wedding dress and you will look and feel fabulous! Congratulations!
