80s party help

Moglie, 21 February, 2009 at 15:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I have been googling for weeks and have some ideas but am sure everybody on here can help me with some better ones!

I am having a 80s themed party at home in a couple of weeks, fancy dress of course and I want to theme the food, drink, decor.

I am wearing something along the lines of leggings, pixie boots, tunic, plastic jewellery and a spiral perm wig. (It's all I can think of ?)

I have bought loads of 80s movie posters (ghostbusters, jaws, indiana, can't remember the rest). I am using shimmer curtains to divide up rooms and have a mirror ball for the main room.

I am getting singstar 80s and have plenty of 80s music on the ipod to play.

I am expecting about 20 people and can prepare whatever food I want really (have space, equipment, time etc) but I am getting mixed up what it 80s food and what is 70s food!

Drink I can only think of martini, advocaat, pernod ?

Any ideas for decor, food and drink? All the 80s food I can remember is pastry based buffet stuff and while I want it to be authentic I don't want it to be rubbish ?

?

80's drink for me would be Thunderbird, 20/20 and cider. Classy chick huh. what about pina coladas? We were eating pizzas and'ethnic' snacks like bhajis. Other than that, I don't thik anything stands out as 80s food. Poptarts maybe?

Vol au vonts may have started in the 70's but were still very much a party food staple in the 80's.

Ditto for cheese and pineapple/sausage hedgehogs.

Pink wafers, party rings, twiglets, monster munch, disco crisps, black forest gateau, traffic light jelly, pink blancmange, chicken drumsticks, and any open sandwich, especially a finger roll one.

Just to add the traffic light jelly becomes even more authentic if done in a rabbit shaped jelly mould with chopped up lime jelly around it form the grass.

Spare ribs. Seem to remember coming on to those in the 80s.

    ETA:

    Mr Kiplings' French Fancies

    Monster munch

    Twiglets

Also you could go to an online retro sweets retailer and leave bowls of flying saucers etc around. These lot are quite good: https://www.aquarterof.co.uk/

    Chicken drumsticks.

As old enough to have drunk in the 80's I remember Malibu, Babycham and Blue Curaco

party rings, iced gems and garbaldis were munched reguarly

Films you cant forget are - the breakfast club, back to the future, footloose, and of course dirty dancing

    Angel Delight! Butterscotch flavour.

I seem to remember BBQ flavour stuff being quite in.

I think burgers hit our shores big time in the 80's. M&S used to do tiny burgers as party food, but they're a bit crap at party food at this time of year. Don't BK do sort a pack of 6 tiny burgers or something?

Thank you everybody that has really helped. I had forgotten about Taboo & Mirage ? Can you still get them?!

I was going to go to the cash and carry for some retro sweets. Some good food ideas too, am loving the rabbit in the lime grass!

I was 18 in 1990 so sould remember more about the 80s. I loved all the brat pack films (still do) and can remember pizza being new and exciting ?
