80s themed party food

Serendipity, 1 May, 2008 at 11:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 29

Any suggestions for an 80s themed party we're having next weekend?

I don't want anything that has to be served hot, just lots of nibbly type things. So far we have twiglets ([xx(]) cheesy footballs, monster munch/space raiders, cheese & pineapple hedgehog, lots of different childhood sweets ?. However, I can't think of anything canape wise that relates to the 80s. Any suggestions please. ?

Don't forget the curly sandwiches cut into triangles - egg mayo, ham & cucumber and crab paste [xx(]?

Ooh I hadn't thought of vol-au-vents, good idea.

Nutella = food of the devil although it's a good idea and I suppose other people may be strange enough to eat it. ?

I'd say thing s like sausage rolls, pork pies, cocktail sausages, egg sandwiches minus the crusts, bridge rolls.

If you're doing cheese and pineapple sticks you have to do cheese and silverskin onions!

Thinking back to teenaged parties -

Ritz cheese biscuits (if they still make them)
    Mini cocktail sausages
    Silverskin onions
    Wotsits/Skips
    Birds Trifle
    Iced Gems

Some fab ideas here, I think I'll do another "hedgehog" complete with pickled onions, cheese and sausages etc. I suppose sausage rolls and the like can be served cold. I always end up spending ages cooking when we have parties so this time I want to have it all ready in advance and not be having to heat stuff up.

Some fantastic ideas, thanks everyone but you can most definitely keep your pot noodles ONE, although if MrS had his way that's all we would be serving, he loves them. [xx(]

    Ackshully.....

(This is probably a me thing)

    Kebabs!

Belfast in the '80's - Take away food was Burgers, chips, fish... Umm That's it.

The a wee place opened in Queen Street that did Doners. You ate them at a wee bar. I thought it was the absolute height of multicultural sophistication and all my teenage girlfriends were entertained to a large doner, salad and loads of chilli sauce.

What a man about town I was.

I had them at every birthday party I ever had as a child! A speciality of my mums! Along with the cheese and pineapple on a stick and sausages on a stick!

I think if you put cocktail sticks in everything is becomes very 80's!!!

    Cocktail umbrellas ?

What are they? Is it when you roll the bread up like a swiss roll and then cut into slices?

Yep, not sure exactly how you go about making them but I think it may involve cocktail sticks and mild swearing (that's how my mum made them anyway ?). They end up looking like slices of swiss roll.

'Wiz ziz ferrero rocher, monsieur, you are really spoiling uz'

I would attempt to create a ferrero rocher pyramid but not sure how you would keep them balanced. Maybe stick them together with nutella? ?
