A bit gross...mole removal? anybody had it done?

moomin8804, 10 February, 2009 at 11:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Hi all!

Sorry don't want to gross everyone out but i've got two moles on my shoulder that keep catching on my clothes, they don't hurt, it's just a bit irritating! What i want to know is has anybody had moles removed?

What was the process?

Did it hurt?

How long did it take for you to recover and does it leave a scar?

I should add that i'm really scared of needles, hospitals, doctors, anything medical really which is why i'm asking here instead of going to my doc! Thanks!

I have had several removed from different places due to them catching etc. The doctor will inject a local anethestic and use a tool that cuts and burns at the same time, it is quite painless but if you have a sense of smell (luckily I dont) the smell is usually the worst part. They generally heal quickly and just need covering for a few days, i did have one that was under my breast and on the bra strap bit that was a real pain to heal due to its position.

I have very small scars but no more than a bad spot would leave.

My Mom had one removed from her cheek – it was done by her GP, was all v quick and she only has a tiny hairline scar which he was careful to ensure followed the natural lines on her face.

I had a mole and a skin tag removed in July last year and the skin tag was taken off with a hot knife and the mole was cut out. Both areas were numbed up and I didn't feel the skin tag being removed but did feel a little bit of digging about when she did the mole.

I can't see where the skin tag was as it's on the back of my neck but my H tells me that there is a faint mark where it was. My mole was just below my right breast and I have a one inch scar that is fading but will still be seen. stitches came out a week after (as that was my next day off and the 5 days would have been on the sunday when the surgery is closed)

As it was only local anasthetic, recovery was quick but i had to be careful with bending and stretching with were my mole was.

I had one removed from my back at waist level, as like you it was being irritated by clothes. It was about the size of a pea, but raised and really annoying.

I was seen in day surgery bit of local hospital, had local anaesthetic and didn't feel a thing. It was sore for a couple of days and I had to keep it covered but didn't stop doing anything or going anywhere really. After stitches were removed I had about an 3/4inch long scar that has gradually faded but tbh is quite noticeable, although obviously covered by clothes most of the time!

It was well worth getting rid of, I wouldn't hestiate to have the same done again if needed. Good luck!

I had two on my side removed, years ago now. It is a bit gross to describe, but didn't hurt really. They numbed them and then used a sort of hole punch to punch them out ? They were both stitched and I popped the stitches on both - because of where they were they got moved around a lot - much more than moles on your shoulder would. I've just had a look for any scars - I can only find one of them! It looks just like faded skin now.

It took no time at all to get them out, they healed really fast, and I'm really glad I had them done because they used to rub on my clothes and get sore - they were around where waistbands go and were quite bobbly. With anaesthetics, you won't feel anything

I had one on my nostril removed last year.

It would have been fine except that for some reason I fainted and was really quite poorly. The doctor was most worried, wouldn't let me be home on my own. Said he wouldn't be removing the other mole I'd enquired about!!

My parents came to stay with me and I was ill for 2 days!! [feeble wimp icon required]

However the actual procedure was fine, no scar at all.

I had one removed year before last. I had to have it done at the hospital. It wasn't raised, it was flat to the skin so it was cut out under local anaesthetic (is that the one when you're awake?) and I had about 3/4 stitches. It has left a bit of a scar, well you can tell there was something there put it that way but it doesn't bother me, it's below my knee at the back of my leg. Didn't hurt a bit, it was the stitches being removed I disliked the most.

Whereabouts on your nostril was it Lyn? I have one, flesh coloured, that is at the bottom of the base of one of my nostrils, on the crease and the doc said it'd be a job to remove it. I'd love to get rid of it.

I had one removed from my bottom when i was in primary school. It was the size of a 2p piece and still growing. My mum and dad were advised to get it removed because it may have become cancerous as i got older.

I don't really remember it hurting, i think i had a general anesthetic though, obviously because it was on my bum it hurt to sit for a while after so i lay around on my stomach. There is still a scar there now and it must be about 15 years ago, but tbh it mingles in with the cellulite.

I had a mole removed about 10 years ago and I'm really pleased i had it done. it was on my stomach about a cm across, and raised so quite visible under swimming costumes. I had it removed using a 'hot wire' under local anaesthetic - no stitches afterwards. It was quite sore when the anaesthetic wore off that day but fine the following day. I can just about see where it was but I wouldn't expect anyone else would notice the scar.
