Hi all, just thought I'd report that I thoroughly enjoyed my surprise Hen Do - for many this may sound as a drag, as there were no drunken antics, no strippers, L-plates, willies or flashing tiaras and veils.
But obviously my girls know me better than I gave them credit for, because I couldn't have chosen better myself. I am still awaiting for them to put pics on as I didn't take my camera with me but I thouroughly enjoyed the day:
- they had asked me to dress up elegantly and said they were all wearing dresses and evening jewellery etc so I chose a lovely 50s style dress, for which I bought tulle petticoats, and accesorised with diamante necklace and earrings, and wore my little evening fux fur coat (you can just see the gold satin lining of it in my lap! and My fave Dune shoes and bag:
- met them at 1 pm in a bar in town, where they were waiting for me with a glass of Prosseco at the ready and revealed what we were doing and bedecked me in the obligatory pink feather boa, flashing badge and Bride-to-be sash. They then produced a headband with bobbing snowflakes which they said I had to wear all night as a punishment for the last 18 months they endured hearing all about snowflakes for the wedding LOL!
- we were going to the Grand Theatre to see "Top Hat" which I couldn't believe because I had just told my OH the other day when we saw it advertised that I'd love to go see it as I had loved the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Movie as a kid! It turned out a great production with great actors including the wonderful Vivien Parry (Donna in Mamma Mia in the West End) and Tom Chambers (Holby City, Strictly Come Dancing Champion 2008 etc). The costumes were absolutely beautiful (the great Art Deco Era!) and the sets, the music, everything was tops! The girls had booked this ages ago, long before I even saw it advertised and pointed it out to my OH , and they had booked best seats in the house!
- then we went to my favourite restaurant in Leeds, Piccolino's, where the table was also decorated and one of the Bridesmaids' partner had come earlier to deliver the huge cupcakes she had baked and decorated as Hen Party dinner "Favours" , one for each of us, individually boxed - they were yummy! I had the to die for food - I always enjoy it there: Starter: Baked field mushrooms, goat’s cheese, spinach & basil pesto, toasted Tuscan bread; Main: Osso bucco Milanese, which is a slow braised veal shin with saffron risotto & gremolata. Absolutely delicious. We couldn't manage pudding! LOL (each one of us had something different so it was nice to compare).
-we then went to Prohibition for cocktails (well, non-alcoholic for me) then home. Short and sweet as none of us could afford a lot and also I don't normally drink so not into spending the night drinking. It was very very windy and turning cold so we didn't fancy walking around holding our dresses down and being cold...
But just thought I'd let you all know i really enjoyed my surprise!
