Additional extras?

Baz183, 15 January, 2010 at 11:24 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi

Sorry for not being around much lately. Combination of work and christmas.

The time is going so quickly, can't believe its less than 3 months to go!! We've done really well and pretty much everything we wanted is booked and we're within budget (its a miracle). So, as i'm getting some overtime at work I thought it would be nice to get a few 'extras' for the wedding that we didn't need but would perhaps make the day even better. We have background music during the meal and a dj for the evening but thought perhaps a harpist or similar would be nice during the reception drinks.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for nice additional extras (big or small)?

TIA

Having recently booked a string quartet as my one big extragavance, I'd say go for that! ?

We're having them for 2 hours to play during the ceremony and the drinks reception and it's costing £390 (Bristol).

Thanks GB. Will look into that. I thought a string quartet would be more than that.

We got 2 quotes (due to others being booked) - one was £385 the other £390. We chose the most expensive (comb-over man for those that remember my dillema) as they had the song I really want for signing the register in their repotoire whereas the others would charge £30 to learn/arrange it.

We also got harpist quotes and they ranged from £300 to £420.

Oooo. I like that idea. I looked at one ages ago but dismissed it because we didn't think we could afford it. Might go back and take another look.

Thanks ladies. That'll keep me busy for a little while.

I wouldn't bother with the music as you sort of 'miss' it from everyone talking.

I'd would definitely get a photobooth, I think these look like the BEST fun ever - http://www.rentabooth.co.uk

I would have a professional videographer, if you are already having one you could have fireworks, they are always popular or a caricaturist for extra fun!

I have seen a Harpist on several weddings, She has a very good reportoire. I shall check out her details and post them later.

If you do want video, then part of our video package covers guests interviews/ comments or videobooth.

Contact me if you want quotes and check for availability.

Or what about singing waiters - I've seen them on weddingtv and they're brilliant. They basically start singing mostly operatics unbeknown to your guests as they act like they are employed by the venue/caterers.

I like the idea of fireworks too - they look lovely provided the venue doesn't mind! I could go on and on.... but I'll stop at this.

Oh loving the sound of that - bailey's fountain lol - I'd be stuck there all night until it was time to be ill!

That reminds me chocolate fountains are also a good wedding day extra! ?

We had sky lanterns at night and people are still mentioning them 6 months on. I'll see if I can find a picture of them.

Our videographer did messages from people but I wouldn't have paid for a booth.

That was me. Although I got told off for not introducing myself and telling you a bit more, so I kinda stopped posting in that thread!

Baz, where are you based? We're in Suffolk and although I've not decided if we can afford anything, if you are in the right area you could try these guys - www.AandMEvents.co.uk (they're the ones I found the Baileys fountain on!). If you're nowhere near them, it might give you some ideas, they do some unusual things!

Bob - thanks for the link, i'll take a look. Thanks for the offer to contact you but we're not keen on a videographer. Nothing wrong with them but just not for us. At least with a booth only people who want to be on camera have to be. Thanks anyway.

PG - we have some lanterns. Now i've seen your pictures i'm really pleased we went for them. One of the few things OH had an interest in. Your pictures are lovely.

andcounting. baileys fountain sounds like a great idea but I think if we're not careful we may end up with the kids mistaking it for a chocolate fountain!!

Baz this might sound daft but try the ones you have. The first ones I got wouldn't light at all so were useless but I then got more from a friend that were fab quality. That will teach me you get what you pay for.

Maybe we're looking at different things? The one I saw certainly didn't look like a chocolate fountain....
