Does she have a contract and wedding insurance?

On what basis are they holding the other wedding over hers?

What a total fecker though. If she has wedding insurance I'd call them first, they should cover the cost of another venue (and claim it back from original place). Then I'd get everyone to man the phones to find somewhere else.

Oh and do tell us the name of the venue and the area she's in, maybe some Hitchers will be ab;e to suggest alternatives.

God, thats really bad on the venues part. I'm guessing invites have already been sent as well.

I'd be inclined to find another venue, but I'd be looking for some compensation for the ***-up to cover any extra costs and as an apology.

    Oh my thats horrendous!

don't really know what to say other than is there anywhere else she would like to have?

make sure she gets her money back from the first venue and they pay any extra costs for the 2nd venue in way of compensation!

best of luck, let us know how you get on.

OK wedding insurance company won't help as it's breach of contract and therefore a legal issue

Other people booked later but have paid for sole occupancy !!!!

OMG that's awful!, if I were your friend I would get onto the wedding insurance company and have my OH on the phone to the hotel and find out who booked first, if it turns out that you booked first then give them what for, if you booked 2nd then make sure your claim back the cost of everything that has the venue' name on it.

Let us know how she gets on

Which means she has a contract. They can't cherry pick, she booked first, simple as. Gah, how bloody annoying.

As for the insurance company, has she checked that the policy excludes contact breach? Sounds like buck passing to me and what's the point of wedding insurance if they can't help in such a circumstance (which is more common than people might expect).

I think I'd be sorting a solicitors letter citing breach of contract as the next step, whilst calling everywhere for alternative venues (as well as the local press just to shake them up).

And I take it the Stan Hill Court Hotel aren't exactly going out of their way to help make up for their total feck up? What a crock.

They booked after your friend?!?!?, I would be down at the venue causing one HELL OF A SCENE, just because she has paid for sole occupancy doesn't mean that your friend should be looking for somewhere else, it should of been explained to this other person that sole occupancy is not available.

Tell your friend to get down to the venue today and speak to the Manager and let them know if it doesn't et sorted they will be speaking to her solicitor!

    Hey ice queen

hubby is a lawyer, and says they should def seek legal advice as it looks like there has beena breach of contract, and they would prob be able to sue the venue for the losses they will suffer, plus any extra cost of any new venue (providing they are reasonable and try and find something similar, and not pick he most expensive place they can find)

May be we could do a venue search for her if you give us her preferred location?

I'd go and poo on their front door step.

No, seriously, that is awful. Like others, I'd say to go down the legal route.

Ooo just looked up the wedding venue, it's not that far from where i got married in Coulsdon.

I can highly reccommend my venue which is Woodcote Park Golf Club - it is abaolutely idealic and the staff are more than helpful! They did everything right and I couldn't fault them.

Also a friend of mine got married at Coulsdon manor and again it was an amazing venue and such a brilliant day.

Thanks for everyone's help - she is going to speak to a lawyer on Tuesday and start legal proceedings for breach of contract

Have passed on all the recommendations to her too - new venue needs to be very close to other one as otherwise people will have too far to travel

Will let you know what happens
