I’m having some serious second thoughts about my wedding dress. My wedding is 16 days so I’m in a panic! So apologies for the length of this post.
My dress is the Miltonia by Suzanne Neville https://www.suzanneneville.com/bridal/enchanting-2025/miltonia/ it has a hidden interior corset (4 rows of eyelets), with 4 small buttons on the exterior.
It was made to my measurements last autumn. I put on over a stone over winter (I won’t get into why), I’ve now lost more than half but still have 7lbs to go before I get to the weight I was when I got measured. Oddly enough, my hip, waist and chest measurements are the same, so in theory the dress should still fit. Because I knew I’d gained weight, I didn’t arrange a single fitting appointment, so it’s extremely unlikely that I can get any adjustments at this late stage now anyway.
All that aside however, I’m getting married on the Amalfi coast so it’s going to be pretty warm. When I tried on the dress originally, I was aware of how uncomfortable a corset feels and how I couldn’t breathe deeply. It did cross my mind that I would have to wear this dress for at least 7 hours and eat a meal in it, but I pushed those concerns to one side because I liked how it looked.
I tried on the dress at home for the first time yesterday, and realised that there was a good reason why there was someone dressing me in the shop: I couldn’t do up the back myself! I’m not having a wedding party, so no bridesmaids to help me.
In a blind panic I have bought a couple of off-the-rack dresses so I have an emergency back up. I’d love some advice from other brides who have had corseted dresses and who have got married in warm climates. Is it possible to do up the dress myself? Should I even bother, or will I be too uncomfortable?
Thank you so much in advance!
