Advice on Vegas wedding and reception at home

Vegaswedding6786, 15 February, 2018 at 12:20 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 1 15

Hi all,

after a bit of advice from anyone that’s done anything similar.

My partner and I are planning on getting married in Vegas around June 2019 with a view to have a reception back home after the summer.

Its just the two of us going to Vegas as we’re planning a road trip for a couple weeks afterwards. We went went on a road trip around California a few weeks after we met (probably the most spontaneous thing I’ve ever done in my life!) so we have a connection with wanting to get married in Vegas and carry on with the trip we went on before.

Has anyone done anything like this before?

Did you bother sending out save the dates or just an invitation? How do you word the invite? Do you call it a reception and explain on the invite that you’re getting married abroad?

Did you have some sort of blessing as well? Were you still expected by guests to do things like have a wedding cake, favours etc?

as for Vegas where did you get married? Did you do anything special in the evening to celebrate? Obviously it’s just the two of us so it’s not like we’re planning a lavish meal with lots of people! We’ve already joked about just going to he secret pizza place! Haha

Im bound to get a few unhappy family members but after saving for the last year and a half to buy our first home we just can’t be bothered to save all over again for one expensive day that neither of us really want. We’d rather spend the money on our own trip and have a budget party when we come home. Plus - when else can you wear your wedding dress twice?!

Many thanks in advance!

I got married at the Bellagio fountains last Sept - was spectacular! They do a 'just the two of us package which includes all of the main bits and pieces. Would not change a thing or do it anywhere else in the world. I had some photos on here somewhere...we did not have a reception when we got home-defeated the whole object of doing it abroad to me, we took a small group out with us. Love love love Vegas - fell in love like you during a California road trip

Wow i've just checked out that package, it looks incredible!

Unfortunately it's a little out of our budget, we're having a bit of a budget ceremony as we're saving up to do the trip afterwards also.

The reason we are choosing to have a party back home as well is because we would still like a chance to celebrate with our friends and family as no body will be coming out to Vegas with us.

We always had a plan to buy a house, go on our second road trip and get married. But financially we realised we were going to have to cut some corners if we wanted to do all of that in the next couple of years. After saving up for a house we couldn't imagine saving up again to go away and then saving all over again to get married. Whereas a Vegas wedding and just a party back home is much more realistic for us money-wise.

    Hey!

I did exactly this, sent out invites to vegas a year before incase anyone wanted to come but put that we would be having a party before we went as we travelled for 3.5 months after, or you could just do an invite when your home? A suprise we got married come celebrate with us!

In vegas we got married on a tuesday evening in the viva las vegas outdoor gazebo, perfect for us just want we wanted and cost about $300!

    Good luck! Happy planning ?

    Hi,

My sister got married at the excaliber castle casino. We stayed at the bellagio which is the most beautiful hotel ive ever laid eyes on! the only thing that was an issue was getting the marriage license from the county court house. Make sure you're in las vegas for a certain amount of time as you have to be there before they will grant you licence. Good luck- Viva las Vegas!

    HI Beccah,

I have seen the gazebo at the viva las vegas chapel I love it!

How far in advance did you book this? What time of year was it? My only issue is we're thinking of going in June and we wanted to get married in the morning so we could have the rest of the day to celebrate, but I'm thinking an outdoor ceremony might be too hot in June!!

We're only traveling for a couple of weeks after and thinking of having a party back home after the summer season has died down, we live on the Isle of Wight so booking anything in the summer is madness here!

    Thanks for your advice!

    HI SunnyRedCars

We stayed at the excalibur last time we visited Vegas. I thought it was brilliant!

Oh i would love to stay at the bellagio, not sure we can afford quite that much but we'll certainly try!

I've read that to speed up the marriage license process you can fill out a form online before heading to the county clerks office, did your sister do this? I think we're planning on arriving in the morning and having the day to sort out final bits and get the license and get married the following day. We're not keen to spend too much time in Vegas in total as we'd like to get on the road for our honeymoon!

Thanks for the good luck - all seems a bit surreal currently! It helps that it's just us planning to go out there, not having to organise anyone else! We'll let close friends and family know when and where incase they want to sort out their own trip out there but we're really not fussed if it's just us!

Hello Smiley smile We are getting married at the Bellagio Hotel in October this year and we are then having a reception when we get home.

Our immediate family and close friends are coming to Vegas with us but we still wanted to celebrate with everyone else. I didn't want just the party reception so we are having a dinner and inviting people who we would have had at the full wedding had we decided to have it in the UK. We sent out save the dates for it that said:

'so it's true, on 18th Oct 2018 we are going to Las Vegas to say I Do, but of course we would still love to celebrate with you! Please save the date to join the future Mr and Mrs for our Wedding Dinner on the evening of...'

Something like that for a save the date might help with your family who are unhappy about not getting to the actual wedding but you are showing you would still like to celebrate your marriage with them Smiley smile

Our plan for the evening is to have a drinks reception for everyone showing up, then everyone seated and do speeches. We are then having a 3 course dinner followed by a slide show of our pics from Vegas and some clips from our wedding ceremony as it is recorded for us. We will have a cake but not a traditional wedding cake and will bring the Vegas theme into it. We then have a few Vegas style surprises for the rest of the night and i'm still unsure whether to have a DJ or not.

We are having the evening at a local hotel and as we are not there as a full day wedding, they gave us a really good deal. I know the dinner thing might not what you're thinking of if you'd rather put the money into your road trip which sounds amazing!

And i LOVE the fact I am getting to wear my wedding dress twice too! Smiley smile

    Happy planning!

Thank you so much for your input!!

Your plan sounds pretty much like what we want to do, except instead of a sit down meal I think we'll be having a buffet.

But like you, I still fancied the cake, and speeches and we're planning a first (second) dance haha

Your idea of the invitations sounds great.

Hey - doing a similar thing but not in Vegas. We've opted for a desert wedding outdoors (Lake Powell) followed by a day of activities in our wedding outfits. Just the two of us.

We're throwing a wedding party / reception when we get back, for us, we're treating it as a chance to treat our family and friends. It has all the elements of a wedding reception without the wedding. By this I mean that we've got welcome drinks, a cake, a first dance and some speeches (informal just to thank people!) Are people annoyed by this? No. We've been upfront since the start of planing to make sure everyone knows that we've decided to go just the two of us because that's what we feel comfortable with.

For our invites - we called it a 'Wedding Party'. It's 2018 - there should be zero rules on this type of thing and for the best part, most people aren't too bothered, so long as the couple is happy!

Hi, my partner and I are planning on getting married in secret in Vegas and a party on return. Can I ask how yours went and what you decided with the party? I'm struggling on ideas of how to make this work.

I had a real big experience via online dating. I had an account on https://www.flirt.com/ for a very long time ,but didn’t really believe in that kind of relationships. But one day,it was very boring evening and i had nothing to do so i went there and try to find somebody… There were so many girls and i didn’t really believe it ,cause they were so beautiful. And i started to chat with some of them. And then i found one girl that was perfect match for me and we start chatting. But she was from another country and it was really difficult. But she was so nice, and i choose to go visit her and after that i am living with her until now and we are gonna get married in 2months.

That's a cool idea, a no-deposit bonus like that. I recently tried it myself, I liked it. I will play further.
