Advise needed about Banns

Natasha2016, 6 March, 2015 at 10:54 Posted on Planning 0 11

We are getting married on 17 sept 2016 in a church outside our parish. This has been discussed and booked. I am aware i need to get banns read in our local parish aswell as the church we intend to marry in.

My question is when do i contact my local church for our bands to be read? Does it have to be a certain time frame or just as soon as possible?

Thankyou in advance

The banns get read either twice or three times (can't remember) before your wedding so you need to leave enough time for that to be done.

the church you're marrying in will be able to advise you when best to contact the local church. I seem to remember that they sent us a form which they wanted the local vicar to complete (i'm really sorry if i'm talking rubbish here, i honestly can't remember clearly). You then make an appointment with the local vicar and they will fill in the form and talk you through when they'll read the banns.

I was told to park this until about 3 months before we got married. I was really worried i'd miss the deadline, as i had no idea what to expect. Whoever told me to park it was spot on!

There's no point contacting them now as they won't do it until shortly before the wedding.

    hth.

    Hi

The banns need to be read on 3 consecutive Sunday's before your wedding. (My wedding was the first weekend in June and they read my banns out in April.)

I actually contacted my parish church quite a few months in advance but they were happy to help me that early. They sent me some forms to fill in and we had to send them a cheque for the fee.

Perhaps contact them early next year?

    Hope this helps

I had to do this and contacted the church where we live and not where we got married massively ahead of time. We got married in September and they made me wait until Easter before to do the forms. I had to chase the certificate the week before the wedding though as the vicar had popped off on holiday.

We are getting married in our local church and have to have our banns read 3 times in consecutive weeks, within 3 months of the wedding date. X

I didn't realise that I would have to contact my parish church as well.

I'm having to attend the church for 6mths where I want to get married, so that I become a member of that parish church. Would I still need to contact my local parish, does any know or help please.

    thanks

Yes you have to contact your local parish to ask permission and inform them you are marrying in another parish. X
