After the band is a playlist okay?

Amber, 24 May, 2021 at 20:45 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hello everyone!

I am currently planning my wedding for July 2022 and we are stuggling to decide about music in the evening. There is a band I love but after they are finished they just put on a Spotify playlist that we make before hand. We have a late licence so this would be quite a few hours. We are worried about gaps between songs ruining the mood and not having someone controlling the music will mean people will leave the dance floor. Has anyone got any expierence of this? I haven't been to many weddings so not sure if this is common.

Any advice welcome!

    Hi Amber!

In addition to also planning our wedding for July 2022, I'm a professional musician and have years of wedding band experience!

If I gave a candid answer, by the end of the band's set everyone is pretty jolly enough to barely notice any gap in songs, but if that's a worry I know Spotify has a crossfade feature that lets songs fade into one another, which is something I have done after many a wedding gig.

I've seen some DJs absolutely tear it up and get everyone bouncing none stop, but I've also seen lacklustre DJs that are worse than just having a playlist on.

I'm happy to answer any more questions you have on wedding music if you have any! And I'll try and help haha

I’ve just booked our wedding band and after enquiring into what feels like 50 bands in total, the general vibe I got is that you could upgrade to a ‘manned DJ’ rather than a ‘playlist DJ’ if your budget allowed. I found on average it was about £150 and they would take requests throughout the night and they can shake up the vibe it’s needed. I’ve enquired/booked ours through a wedding band agency, but if it’s a local band it might be worth asking if they do something similar!
