Afternoon tea and wine!!!!

Doris 5/10, 12 December, 2011 at 21:26 Posted on Planning 0 11

We are probably going to have an afternoon tea followed by a bbq in the evening. Now would you have wine on the table during the afternoon tea or not?

Hoping to have pimms as the welcome drink.

We had an afternoon tea (very informal) and did not provide any wine or alcohol. We had our main sit-down meal in the evening so provided alcohol then. We personally didn't want to be drinking/encouraging drinking at 2pm as it was a long enough day (started at 11am with people getting on the transport we provided) and we were planning to go on until midnight.

If you're planning to have Pimms as a welcome drink, will you continue to serve it at the afternoon tea? I think Pimms and afternoon tea sounds nice, plus you can 'water' it down a bit so it's not too strong for the afternoon. But if you didn't want to serve any alcohol I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Firstly, I love the idea of Afternoon tea followed by a BBQ.

I would like alcohol of some sort during afternoon tea, but I think Pimms would be fine. I'm not a huge drinker, but I know at weddings that I would like a drink to be available if I wanted one! As MrsJ said it's a good one to water down with load of lemonade and fruit.

We're having afternoon tea at about 4pm and are providing wine with it, mainly because it's just easier. However, tea is being served with the afternoon tea as well.

We're having pimms as our welcome drink though to set the scene and it's my favourite!

I know this is an old post and i have only just seen this but thought i would reply as this is exactly what we are doing and i love the idea.

In answer to your wine question what we have decided to do is give everyone a welcome drink of champagne on arrival to the venue after the ceremony and then one after the speeches and other than that everyone is on there own. I am actually going to order a pot of tea for the likes of my nan etc as they would prefer that instead of champagne.

P.s If you don't mind me asking how much pp are you paying for your BBQ?

If we go with caterer we are thinking of using it will be £22 per speson for afternoon tea and £18 for bbq and you get a really good choice. (1/2 price for kids)

I am waiting to hear from venue because they have their own chef and if they can beat or match the caterer then I will use them.

We are hoping to take quite a bit of wine with us so we are just wondering when to use it.

We are getting married at 3.30 and I would like the afternoon tea to start about 4.30.......I hate waiting around for photos before food so will chat to tog and see if we can do them after the tea when everyone is chatting and hopefully playing with casino and garden games.

Thanks for your reply. We are paying £15 per head so i suppose we have a good deal really and our afternoon tea is going to work out £5 per head for sandwiches, crisp nuts and Home made biscuits. How far in advance do they want your final numbers confirmed? We have been told they want the final payment and numbers by Feb 2012 but we don't get married till 28th June 2012 ans i am not sending the invites out till Jan 2012. x

We aren't getting married till 26th May 2013 so not sure yet. I seem to think the caterer would want numbers 6wks prior. I am hoping to send day invites with xmas cards next year with a RSVP date of end of jan so then we can upgrade any evening guests before we actually send the evening invites out. Not sure if thats a bit too early......

I do think our afternoon tea is expensive. We get sandwiches, different cakes, vegtable tarts, mini yorkshire puddings. The bbq menu was really good for the price.

I am hoping my venue will be able to do it a bit cheaper. It's a new venue and started out with customers bringing own caterers in but now they are proving to be really popular they have decided to employ a chef.

Where abouts are you getting married?

In a cafe bar in the in the Liverpool it is also a modern kind of venue on the pier front by the ferry terminal. Has an upstairs balcony area which is round an looks down on the lower tier. The upstairs will have the Dj and some tables and then the downstairs more tables but is a smaller area. I love the venue but am worried about filling the 2 areas and people going up and down the stairs. our max numbers are 65. Do you think it'l work?

Yeah was a good deal on the BBQ i am pleased about that.

Where about are you getting married?
