Agency cleaner hasn't returned keys - where do I stand?

I'll try and keep this brief as I'm quietly fuming!

We have a cleaner through an agency who has cleaned for us on a fortnightly basis for the past 2 years. Of late I've not been overly thrilled by her cleaning skills but the final straw came almost 2 weeks ago when she came in to the flat, didn't clean, left me a note to say she had a problem with her car and that she'd be back the following day............but she took the money we'd left out for her! I sent her a message saying the following afternoon wouldn't be convenient but the morning would be, and gave her several other times that she could come in that week.

In a nutshell we didn't see or hear anything of her and on the Friday (which was the last option I had given her) when I came home I was mightily cheesed off as we had visitors and 2 viewers on the Saturday morning (place is on the market). I contacted the agency a week ago and they spoke to her. She was apparently incredibly apologetic and the agency arranged to send me a different cleaner as I was no longer happy to have the original one back. Trouble is, a week on there's no sign of my keys or my money! I have no spare set of keys to pass on to the new cleaner (and don't see why I should dish out another set anyway) and I'm still paying agency fees despite not having had a cleaner for almost 5 weeks now. The agency contacted me on Thursday to check if they keys had been returned and they again tried contacting the cleaner leaving her a message, sending a text and putting a letter in the post to her. I've just left a message for the agency saying there's still been nothing from her and hopefully someone will get back in touch with me tomorrow.

My question is, where do I stand? I willingly gave the cleaner the keys. The agency are chasing her and the message I left will have indicated that my patience is wearing very thin! Does anyone have any advice? ?

If you contract the cleaner through the agency then they are responsible for her. They should be refunding the money she took, the fees you have paid during the time you haven't had a cleaner and if I were you, I would tell them to get two quotes to change your locks because they will be paying for it.

There's no way I would let any ex-employee hold keys to my property, if you can't get them back for your protection you need to change the locks.

I agree, it's the agency's responsibility to make sure you're not out of pocket. I don't think you'll hear from the cleaner again so tell the agency you expect them to reimburse you and cover the cost of the lock change. I manage approx 70 cleaners and I'd expect to reimburse the client for something like this.
