All my plans have changed!

mummy2hannah, 4 September, 2009 at 22:26 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hey girlies,

I havn't been on here properly for ages, became more of a lurker, but just thought I'd let you know all my plans have changed...

I was originally a Feb 2011, registery office B2B with a choc brown/pink colour scheme. Now we're getting married in Paphos, Cyprus next September (hopefully). I've picked where we're getting married and where the reception will be. Now I'd love people's opinions of the dress/colour scheme! The dress I have my heart set on has quite a long train, any opinions of a 'big' dress in a hot country? (we're not getting married on a beach) Also what colour scheme do you think best suits weddings abroad/summer weddings? TIA xx

Sorry for the big photo's! Just wanted you to see it for opinions if it's too much for Cyprus! xx

I think the dress is just lovely. I would think it will be fine for September as it's a bit cooler than say July or August..

    Ooh exciting change of plan!

I think September can still be quite hot in that region, especially at the beginning of the month - its still summer. The size of the dress is probably not a problem, as log as the fabric is not too synthetic, if you don't wear stockings underneath I think you'll be fine - I would google it just to be on the safe side, I'm sure others have reported back from their experiences.

For colour scheme I would go for something mediterranean like yellow, white and turquoise maybe? or something with terra-cotta? depends how bold you want to be.

Ooo, the dress is lovely, i really like that! Would just be a little worried about the sand on the beach and getting it in the beading on the train, but it is beautiful.

Not sure about colours- quite like what tango has suggested!

I would go for a bold colour aswell, you'll get away with it more being abroad.

Are you actually getting married on the beach? As in stood on the sand? If you are I think the dress will be a complete nightmare to wear, it'll drag on the sand and look dirty really quickly.

Thank you everyone for your replies! No, we're not getting married on a beach, it'll be in a old town hall, then onto an inn/restaurant in the countryside! so shouldn't be any sand/muck around!

22tango - those colours are lovely thanks, and I think it'd be better to be bold with colours abroad! I should have mentioned my three bridesmaids...1 blonde, 1 brunette and 1 red head...so I'm abit concerned the terra-cotta might clash with her! but a turquise dress would be lovely on all 3! Thanks again and good luck with your house move! you all packed up and ready?xx

I think your dress will be fine then. It'll probably still be quite warm out there in September so you might get a bit hot but I would have thought the town hall would be fairly cool inside. As someone else suggested, forget the stockings/tights!

As for colours, how about going for something really bright and colourful? Maybe bright yellows, oranges and green like this (ignore the beach setting)

Thanks mummy2hanna, Its all a bit chaotic at the moment - not much left to pack but a lot of cleaning to do - keeping me very busy... OH has always left me to it in the past but is being most involved and helpful which is great!

do you have any pics of the venue/reception? would be great to see it and maybe we could get some more ideas.....

Ahh, I know what you mean about OH's leaving you to do it all lol, but great to see he's helping this time round! Are you moving far? Is it a bigger house?

I can only find massive ones of the venue. It's not much, just an old building, lots of bricks...

Here are some of the reception...(sorry for the size)

They seem to have lots of pink/red flowers but I think a pink dress would clash with my red-headed bridesmaid?!
Also, I love the colours December1984 just suggested but as the venue has a lot of greenery, I want to steer clear of greens!

I'm thinking of a turquoise/duck egg colour for dresses, but don't know what will go for a secondary colour....

Sorry if I'm sounding really fussy lol xx

Hi sorry for the late reply. was pack pack packing... again!

not moving far - from Brixton to Mitcham - so still south London, but much bigger house (we rent a 1 bed flat at the mo).

I LOVE your venue - looks absolutely amazing!! you'll have so much fun. you could have Turquoise or light blue and pink - they go together, and have what you suggested for the bridesmaids dresses, and some pink flowers/detail - it'll look fab!

I vaguely know where you mean Tango. I'm from West London originally, only moved up here a few years ago! Have you got much decorating and stuff to do when you move in? How are your wedding plans coming along?

I've just got off the phone to the venue, I'm getting info emailed out from the lady who lives over there and then booking it next week! Then I can finally change this damn ticker, as it's still set to my original date lol! I knew you were gonna suggest matching the blue and pink and I really wasnt keen, but just googled it and actually like it! Especially abroad! Plus I've found these fab personalised fans in a hot pink colour, thinking of having them as favours for the ladies. xxx

Your choice in dress is gorgeous. I think turquoise will be perfect as it will complement your surroundings but be a strong enough colour to stand out and shouldnt clash with bridesmaid hair!!! Have you visited Cyprus in September?

Thanks a lot Lenny! I've not been to Cyprus in September before, that's why I was wondering if people thought the dress would bee too hot for the heat! But majority have said that it should be fine!

How's you? How's your plans coming along? xx
