Allergic reaction to alcohol

bettyb, 23 November, 2008 at 19:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

2 years ago whilst on holiday in Italy I started to have a reaction to wine. Shortly after drinking it I had a sore throat, and my ears and nose felt blocked. This went on for a few weeks after coming home then sort of disappered again. Anyway yesterday I had some Magners cider and I started with a sore throat, didn't think too much of it as I have cold at the moment anyway. Just now I have just had a small glass of Magners and my throat is killing me, just like it did 2 years ago. I'm not sure what could be causing it as I drink Magners regularly so not sure why it has suddenly started.

Hitched diagnose me. Why does it happen then just go away again ?

I've absolutely no idea but I'm also allergic to some alcohol, especially red wine. Like you my eyes and nose start to itch, I get all blocked up, my nose starts running and I can't stop sneezing. I also get a horrible rash which I have to take antihistamines to shift.

Its really annoying that it just happens suddenly. When it happened last time I thought it must be something that was in the wine, but now its happening with Magners cider, something I have been drinking for ages without a problem.

I hope it passes again before the christmas festivities kick in otherwise I will be sober whilst everyone else is drunk and annoying.
