Alternative songs for the ceremony and first dance?

kentishbride, 14 May, 2008 at 19:59 Posted on Planning 0 11

We are having a civil ceremony and i would love to have songs that are still in keeping with the 'love' theme but are a little less popular than the ones that immediately spring to mind. Not that there is anything wrong with these songs - i would love something a little diferent.

i am a big fan of R n B - anyone got any suggestions for ceremony songs and first dance from that kind of genre?

Hope this post comes out ok - this is my first since the site changed x

yes yes i can help you with this (i think)....We are lovers of R'n'b and the songs that we have chosen/deciding on may give you a few ideas...

Walking in- Alicia Keys- If i aint got you (instrumental)

    Walking out- D'angelo- Lady

Signing register- Brian Mcknight- for the rest of my life

First dance- Anthony Hamilton-Since I seen't you or Robin Thicke- Lost without you

    other songs considered were:

    Musiq Soulchild:- Aimewitue

    Floetry-Butterflies

    Al Green- Simply Beautiful

    Alicia Keys-Butterflies

Angie Stone - More than a woman (soo cute this one- very fitting for a wedding i think in places)

ummmm....trying to think of anymore Ive got loads im obsessed with music...

    hope this helps anyway x

We are having Alanis Morrisette 'Head over feet' Which isn't a traditional first dance song but the words are really appropriate.

Hi kentishbride! How are you doing? ?

The only RnB type song we're going to have is Differences by Ginuwine - not going to be our first dance but will be played as one of the first or last songs as the words are meaningful to us and the song means something as H2B put it on a CD for me one Valentines Day (soppy I know!)

I'm walking in to Des'ree - Kissing You (from Romeo & Juliet soundtrack, it's the music playing when they notice each other through the fish tank....sends shivers up my spine and I knew i'd have to have it at my wedding as soon as I heard it!!....although I wasn't even engaged then, didn't even know H2B ?)

Then I think we're walking out to Queen - You're my Best Friend, so something a little more upbeat but still meaningful lyrics.

I *think* our first dance is going to be Van Morrison - Have I Told You Lately...but we haven't officially decided!

Know this hasn't been much help, sorry!

    Stacey x

EDITED to add - I also love Christina Aguilera's Ain't No Other Man, it's really up tempo but the words are so true for me and I heard she actually did write it about her husband, thought it was such a different idea to write a love song that wasn't slow and ballad-y! So I'll have to make sure that's played at some point in the evening reception....
