Alternative to 'Father of the Bride'??

Mrs-HFA, 28 June, 2011 at 14:09 Posted on Planning 0 14

I wonder if you knowledgable ladies can help me decide what I refer to my cousin as, who'll be 'giving me away'? Sadly, my Dad isn't here to do it, and my cousin is also my best friend, so he was the obvious choice for the job. But when it comes to gifts etc and also for the Order of Service, what would his 'title' be? Any suggestions?

Do you have to specify a title on those things? Could you just have his name? Or is it wrong to do that.

Mine is slightly different as my mum will give me away, we aren't having an OOS so not sure what the guidelines are.

    Cousin of the Bride? Escort?

For the OOS you could put 'arrival of the Bride escorted by her cousin and best friend, Mr X'

I'm going to ask my best friend to give me away as I have little to no contact with my dad. I was going to refer to him as my best man lol. But I suppose escort or just saying he's given you away perhaps.

The official title for a grown up page boy or boy bridemaid is 'Man of Honour' - would that be better? Kinda like maid of honour but for blokes and sounds better tha bridesman.

this is really nice, I had my 2 brothers give me away and my God father do the 'god father of the bride' speach but we didnt have an OOS so didnt have to tachnically give them a title.

i guess they are normaly 'giving away' and the registra/priest asks "who gives this woman ..." but you can probably come up with something better than "bride given away by..."

I like the escorted by cousin & best friend! sounds nice.

Hmmm, I think I'm quite liking that one. 'Man of Honour' just ain't doing it for me, somehow. I may ask him and see if he has any other suggestions.

My brother is giving me away. He will be 21 (19 now) I'll be calling him BoB!! (brother of the bride). he's 7 years younger than me and was made up to be asked. he's taking it very seriously and has already started thinkin about his speech! Never had a dad to mention and he's the main man in my life except Mr Apples who is more like his big bro than his sisters boyfriend. Makes me feel very proud! xx

I do like the idea of putting "Bride escorted by her cousin and best friend" though for the OOS.

Or Your could have "Bride's Best Man".

    I like this.

Do they have to have a title at all? I didnt realise OoS needed to state bride and who she is escorted by lol i thought it just said entrance of bride or some such wording

My sons are giving me away, not yet decided which one will do what exactly and which will do the act of giving me away (likely to be no1 son, with no2 son doing the speech) but i guess they could be the SoBs?
