Alternative to top table

Joanne, 28 March, 2023 at 22:09 Posted on Planning 0 6
Hello,
We are going against tradition in a couple of areas of our wedding and one of them is that we don't want a top table (or a sweetheart table). We want to eat and mingle with our family and friends and the tables at the venue are rectangular (put in sets of 3 or 4 long). We were wondering if anyone had any suggestions to mingling with the guests while eating (not a set menu - platters are put in middle of tables for people to help themselves) We can't do the 'everyone move!' as we have some young kids and elderly people. Any other ideas would be gratefully received! Thanks ☺️

Could you spread out your bridal party amongst the tables and then they move around with you?

Maybe have a place set at each table for you two and move between courses? So everyone else stays where they are but you move.

Yes what Sarah said is the only thing I can think of. But even with a set sit-down 3 course meal any top table is served 1st so there could be at least 10 mins between finishing and the next course being served which is when I see a lot of couples get up and mingle.

There is no rule that says you even have to actually sit together, so long as you are together for the speeches please so I can capture both of your reactions Smiley xd

Yes, we'd already said whatever we end up doing, we'll go to the top table for the speeches. We don't have a 3 course meal planned - it's sharing platters to mak it less formal too.
