Alternative toastmasters

Sam, 26 May, 2022 at 14:28 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi there!

While I would love to have the organisation that a toastmasters brings to the day (and dealing with the suppliers!) I find them so formal and pompous (especially in their red coats).

Are there any low-key alternatives? Who might just quietly organise and direct people and wear a regular suit? Our venue don't offer this and I'm not sure I trust any of the groomsmen/family enough!

Thanks,

Sam

Do you mean in terms of directing the guests and introducing stuff like the speeches? If so we're asking our ushers to do this - they're really excited and think of themselves as "emceeing" the event! They won't be dealing with the suppliers though, we're doing that up to the morning of at which point MOH is taking over.

Hi Chloe, yes that’s what I mean.
I’m just not sure the ushers/groomsmen in our party would know the venue well enough to direct people adequately or be organised enough to stick to timings.
In the morning of I don’t think I’ll have time to deal with suppliers and my bridesmaids will be with me getting ready. Hence I think we could do with someone to fulfil this role - just not the pompous red-jacket wearing traditional MCs or toastmasters….

Hmm this sounds like a bit more than what I'm asking my people to do.

In terms of timings, I'd suggest having an "order of the day" somewhere front and centre that people can refer to - there will always be people who are on it and will follow this guide so there will be a bit of a heard mentality regardless. Then you can just have the ushers rounding up any stragglers.

Suppliers - is your wedding venue providing the food, bar, etc? Mine is, and we're getting ready on site, so that's why MOH can deal with the on the day suppliers (basically the florist and the venue coordinator, he'll just do a quick check that the venue has set everything up as we requested and everyone who needs a bouquet or a button hole has it). If everything's coming via different businesses, then I reckon you do need a non-bridal party point person. I'd suggest this be a trusted family member (MOB or MOG?), otherwise it's a bit of an ask for a friend who didn't make the cut to be in the wedding, or hiring a "day of coordinator" (as far as I'm aware they don't wear any silly jackets!).

Hope that helps a bit Smiley smile

Have you looked into hiring an ' On the day' Wedding coordinator?
