Am I being 'too organised'?

Kooks, 30 September, 2010 at 15:14 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi

I get married next year on 3rd September; so far we have booked the church and reception venue, booked the photographer, I've bought my dress (from Preloved so have it at home), we've bought my sis a bridesmaid dress and I've also bought a few little bits and pieces as I've come across them like a tiara.

I saw a pair of shoes on the Dune website this morning then saw them on House of Fraser's at a reduced price, bridal but very pretty and a not too high heel which I think will suit my dress so I ordered them. Text my sis to tell her and she commented that I'm very organised. Am I? Am I being too hasty? Now I'm thinking that maybe it's a bit too soon to be getting stuff like shoes and I might change my mind...

What do you think? Are you super organised and booking / buying things way in advance or holding off to make sure?

I'm July 2011 and I have venue, registrar, tog, florist, dress, hen and stag booked, honeymoon booked, favour bags, the bits to make invites, caterer, some of the wine, guest book...and have had a lot of this sorted for a while! I don't think there's anything wrong in getting things early. If you like things, get them sorted I say! x

Hi I'm not getting married until 15th Oct next year and I have booked the church, venue, photographer, bought bridesmaids dresses, my centrepieces and some decorative bits and bobs. I wonder if I am trying to plan it all to early as well, but its better to have it all done sooner rather than be stressing about it next year I think!! x

Sounds exactly like me! I get married in July 2012 and we have booked the venue and registrar, I have bought my dress already (as I completely fell in love with one straight away), and now we are looking at photographers. I have also found the invitations that I want, but haven't bought them yet.

Ha thanks girls - you've put my mind at ease! It's hard not to get caught up in all the wedding planning excitement. And I don't want to be flapping with a month to go and I've still not got stuff.

A very good point about the VAT rise! x

    DATE TWIN!!

You're way more organised than me though. I have the registrar booked, venue sorted, catering sorted, dress bought, rings bought, wedsite up and running, DIY flowers (for centrepieces and bouquet) in progress, but that's it. We're off to a wedding fair in MK this weekend though so hoping to get some more bits sorted.

    Your my date twin!!

And you're also worrying me that I have not done that much! Lol. I wouldnt worry, its best to get bits and pieces as you see them, no harm in it! Maybe dont decide on your color scheme etc too soon in case u do change your mind, but planning it in advance helps spread the cost out etc.

IMO you can never be too organised.

I'm getting hitched 12 August next year - got Venue - church and reception, cars, honeymoon, favours, flowers, TOG, Guest book sorted, my dress, shoes, jewelry, tiara, veil, having my first hair trial at the weekend (I know I will need many) - ordered our wedding rings, started booking hotels, finalised our menu at reception, am making invite drafts atm. Decided on church music, and first dance.

Lots of fun.! If you want the shoes - get them! I haven't changed my mind on anything yet! People not planning a wedding don't understand how much work it is!

I want the last month to relax, lesurely pack my cases for honeymoon and will also be moving house so it needs to be sorted ASAP - am planning weekened away with OH 2 weeks before the wedding.!

I wouldn't say too orgainsed at all. Places such as venues, churhes and togs I should imagine get booked up pretty soon. I wish I was as organised as you but part of the problem is all the hefty deposits these places require and with a house move and christmas just round the corner everything is getting a little tight. My OH seems to be more organised than me though. He has booked a venue a registrar and a photographer - as yet I have booked zip! really hoping I can order a dress soon as I think I have found the one. I think it may involve a bit of eyelash fluttering to OH as it is a wee bit over budget - oops!

Spreading the cost is a big thing for me too - I've worked out that we'll have paid for over a grand of it this year which will help.

Kayl - wow that is super organised!! I'm impressed!

That doesn't sound too organised to me. It's pretty normal I think to have those things sorted a year in advance- we have some bookings that are nearly two years away! so I wouldn't worry, nothing wrong with being very organised Smiley smile

No such thing as too organised - I'm getting married next August and done most things already. Haven't changed my mind about the colour scheme or anything I've bought so far and have been engaged a year at Halloween. I'm a great believer in - if you like it, get it when you see it. Went to look at a sale in a bridal shop on a whim at Easter (15 months til the wedding) and went home with the one that day. ABSOLUTE BARGAIN! ?

I'm June 2012 too and Ive got venue, photographers & cars. The only other thing I would like to do just now is my band as the good ones go quick.

There is nothing wrong in being organised - a girl in my work is getting married in a couple of weeks and only ordered her cake a month ago!!!!

    Smiley smile
