Am i being unreasonable about my hen?

Faye, 15 August, 2021 at 16:57 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 2
So due to covid I have already put my wedding on hold from may until the end of December.
My bridesmaids have been in charge of planning and arranging my hen. I don’t have much care about the hen but have made it clear I wanted to go abroad.
My OH has planned their stag and getting hyped for their time in Budapest.I hadn’t heard anything about the hen so chased it up to be told that it will have to be in the UK and nothing yet had been planned. The reason given for the UK was due to the tests needed to go abroad. The thing that upsets me with this is the same bridesmaid went abroad a few weeks ago where doing the tests didn’t bother them.During my teen years I’ve had nights out in most cities so don’t see it as being something special. Also given the time of the year it will be freezing and raining and I don’t want to spend my whole time in clubs. Is it unreasonable for me to say thanks for looking but I really want to go abroad and will do so with my partner instead?I just kinda feel like the amount of money spent on bridesmaids and with none of them having financial ties it’s a bit of a cop out. Also as most of us know the UK can actually cost a lot more than going abroad.

I can understand why you’re upset but we just don’t know what restrictions will be in place later in the year with regard to travel so your friends are probably reluctant to pay for an abroad hen do that may not happen. I had 3 days in the Cotswolds instead of Marbella and it was lovely being with all my friends and we had so much fun. I’m sure whatever you do your friends will make it special for you x

I think with how the travel industry is at the moment it’s so hard.
Obviously currently you have to test before, during and after for certain destinations. Also there’s isolation and restrictions both abroad and at home.

They may not want to risk booking somewhere which would then be cancelled therefore causing disappointment for you all. Also if you have to quarantine after this means that everyone would lose wages for the 10 days or have to use their annual leave to do it. Although you can get the tests cheap enough, the amount you have to do and with the rules changing weekly, it could end up being quite costly.
Have you asked all guests who would be invited on the hen how they feel about going abroad? Maybe some of them have said no and it’s only 1 or 2 of you that would end up going. Maybe your bridesmaid thinks more people coming to a UK one would be better than a small amount abroad.
I travel for work so had similar feelings about a England hen do but actually it was amazing. I still want my Vegas hen but as we still can’t go there, we’re gunna have an abroad one after the wedding and when we can travel.
