Am I the only person who dislikes cooking?

Oh Zippy, 12 June, 2008 at 18:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Sorry, posted too soon ?

I love reading posts on cooking but I really resent cooking. I just don't like it. I love food and like all other 'crafts' but I just can't bring myself to get into it.

For all your foodies - have you always liked cooking or did you find you 'got into it' over time?

I don't enjoy cooking. I can cook and what I cook is usually lovely but I don't enjoy the process or the mess or the clearing up. Luckily H is fabulous and finds cooking really relaxing so he does 99% of it. And when he's away, which is a lot of the time, I live on anything I can slam in the oven that can be served "... with oven chips". ?

I like to cook, but I prefer to do special meals and stuff rather than the daily grind.

I hate cooking. It just seems to take up so much time and I don't find it much fun eithr - in fact it's all a bit stressful.

Glad I'm not the only one.

H likes cooking but works very long hours so it's not fair for him to cook all the time. I really, really like food but just don't like the shopping, the preparation or the cooking of it at all. In fact, by the time I've cooked I don't particularly want to eat ?

Also, H is much more of a 'natural' cook and can adapt recipes or make them up really successfully whereas my food tends to be rather bland if I make it up.

And it's my turn tonight. Bah!

I hate cooking for me, when I'm alone it's super noodles and cold anti pasto all the (when I don't phone my Asian chums).

Love to cook for othersthough, even if it's only egg and chips.

Probably 'cos I'm pretty good at it, I aways get kudos.

I love it and have always loved it. It was one of my favourite things to do with my mum when I was growing up. Even now when I visit home I often will cook with my mum.

What I don't enjoy is thinking up what to cook for dinner when I am going through a lack of inspiration period. I would love for my H to just give me the ideas and I could go ahead and cook it.

I hate cooking with a passion. Loathe it infact. The thought of getting home from work and making dinner fills me with dread every night. I have tried to enjoy it, bought magazines, forced myself to watch cookery programmes, I read the foodie threads on here to try and be inspired but it just doesn't excite me. I do however love good food, the ex Mr R is a passionate Chef who did use to spoil me. I think because I couldn't compete with his skills and he enjoyed doing it so much, I never used to volunteer. I'm hoist by my own petard now that's for sure! ?

I love cooking. I can't be bothered to do it everyday though!
Most people say they found their love of food and cooking at a young age from cooking with their Mum etc. Not me. I've only started cooking in the last 18 months or so. Apparently, I'm the best cook ever. As Mr Chunk repeats over and over when he's had a few drinks too many, and my mother tries to bribe me to go over and cook for her ?

I am conscious about goes inside me (ooer, missus!) and if feed-back is to be believed, seem to have a flair, so I do make the effort to cook from scratch, but I resent the preparation, mess and overall process. I find nowt "therapeutic" about it! To be honest, I would rather curl up on the sofa with H and a glass of red, than spend hours slaving away-so I don't. I push the boat out more at weekends, and in the week it's quick and easy in the main. I am loving that H has been on early shifts as I have done no real cooking for a good few weeks-it's been lovely coming home at 6.30-7 to have dinner on the table and a glass of wine ready (or almost!)

As Shirley Conran once said "Life's too short to stuff a mushroom" and I couldn't agree more!

My mum was an incredible cook when I was growing up and so I was kind of inspired by her - but generally unable to get in the kitchen ? She did teach me some basics and I've just improvised from then. I love cookbooks but am rubbish at actually using them. I love great food - though what I cook is more simple and enthusiastic than gourmet. More than loving cooking, I love 'entertaining' (I can't think of a word that doesn't sound Hyacinth Bucket ?). Having friends round for food, wine, general enjoyment. It's fab.
