Is anyone about that takes amitriptyline?

I started taking it nearly two weeks ago, tonight I really really fancy a glass of wine- will I be ok?

I have yet to take tonights pills as I take them at bedtime.

    From NHS website http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?ArticleId=863

If you are taking TCAs (particularly amitriptyline) and you drink alcohol, it can cause drowsiness and a decrease in your co-ordination. The effect is usually worse during the first few weeks after you start to take TCAs. Increased drowsiness is also possible with related antidepressants, such as mianserin, maprotiline and trazodone. It is therefore sensible not to drink alcohol for at least the first few weeks when you start taking TCAs in order to assess your reaction to the potential side effects.

I think its up to you and whether you think you can cope with the possible side effects ?

Thank you zoe, I have just found this, I have only been on them for 10 days, so may need to wait a while to have a proper glass of wine- I just had a quick sniff and then mouthful of Mr MF's (Wine) as I couldn't resist! x

I'll have a cup of tea and another wispa

    Thank you lovely.

I am quite sore today, I have been at my parents house and so not rested as much as I should, but it was lovely to be is different surroundings!

I actually just had a cup of tea and two wispa bars.

I hope you are ok? Thank you for being so helpful and sweet.

I take mine to help with sleep, so being sleepy is not an issue, however, I think with the amount of morphine I am taking right now, I may fall too deeply asleep!

It is very annoying as I really fancy a glass!

Also I told Mr MF I wanted some wine and he said best not because of my drugs, I told him I wanted it and he said no, because he said no, I wanted it even more! He eventually opened a bottle, but then I came on here and asked and now he has a bottle to himself, he was quite happy not drinking with me, but now he has to finish the bottle as it is a sin to let wine go to waste!

I also take amitrptyline to help with sleep post accident and to reduce the huge amount of pins and needles i had in my legs, which now move to my hands and legs instead. joy.

wine just seems to increase the sleepiness. as i wasn't sleeping much at all i don't really mind.

    xx

MF, could you have half a glass before bed? So that the sleeping thing is not so much of an issue?

I hope you all feel better soon xx

Thank you for being so caring you're a lovely hole, unlike the big hairy bum ones. x

Just popped 'over here' for a quick lurk before bed!

I am guessing you might be on it for neuropathic pain, in which case you will 'probably. be on a lower dose than is often used as an a/d.

It will enhance the effects of alcohol, but you should be ok to have a glass.

Please tell Mr MF I said you can have a glass! ?

    xx
