Any *ahem* 'larger' ladies done a boudoir photoshoot?

JellyBellyBride, 14 May, 2014 at 12:48 Posted on Planning 0 3

I've seen a deal on Groupon this morning for a Boudoir Photoshoot and I don't know if I have the guts to do it!! I've been toying with the idea for a few weeks now as I think it would be a really nice surprise for OH but I just don't know! I'm what would be termed as a 'larger' lady, I'm currently around a size 20 and I was just wondering if any plus size hitchers have done one? How did the photographer make you feel? Was it awkward? and, most importantly, how did the photo's turn out? Would you recommend the experience or was it best forgotten, never to be spoken of again?

If I wanted a boudoir shoot I'd be looking to pay at least £150 for it... possibly £300. This is specialist work and you need to view the photographers portfolio carefully. Does it consist of various different women, eg at least 10, who are not obviously models? Can you see women your size looking fabulous?

The use of a coupon site suggests that the photographer may be less experienced and/or trading at a loss. Groupon take 50% of what you pay and the photographer gets what is left. The "headline" figure of "wow this is worth £300!!!" should be ignored.

Lighting, posing and experience are very important in the boudoir market!

Thanks for that Paula, I've just done a quick google of the company and, although they appear to get decent reviews for the actual photoshoots they charge extortionate prices for the photo's at the end so I think I'll give them a miss.

However, I'd still be really interested in other Hitcher's experiences as it is still something I'll consider (although I won't go down the Groupon route and find a photographer the old fashioned way!). I'm sure I remember someone posting to say they were going for one the other week but I can't remember who it was....

I think its very different for Boudoir photographers to show all there work, we don't show clients photos online anywhere unless they ask us to post them which is the way it should be, we also will not send you links to client galleries because they are private.

Honestly you will love doing one if you pick the right person, an experienced boudoir photographer that has been doing it longer than a few years, they will know all about lighting and poses that will show you at your best. We have 2 clients on our galleries that were not models before they came to us but now are and doing quite well out of it.

I did one and I LOVED it!

I deal with ladies every day (we specialise in 16+) and a lot of my ladies are dreading having their wedding pics done. Im currently a size 22 and I wanted to prove you dont have to be a model figure to look good in photos. Unfortunately I am also single so had no one but my customers to appreciate them but I didnt have the pictures done for anyone other than myself.

On a practical note I felt perfectly comfortable with my female photographer and make up lady, who attended my every whim whilst serving me chocolate, making me tea and pampering me start to finish.

    Hope you like the results....
