Any Body Attackers out there? UPDATE

Consuela Banana Hammock, 26 August, 2008 at 19:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

I'm giving Body Attack a go tomorrow morning at my gym. I've been doing Body Pump for the past three months and wanted to add another string to my bow. I just wondering if anybody here did it and could offer me any advice/pointers/words of wisdom?

?

Well I did the class this morning and it's not for me. I didn't have a problem following the moves but to be honest, I found it really boring and after 15 minutes I'd had enough! I did complete the whole class but I'm not a whooping kinda gal and as for the Hairspray track? Well I might dance to that if I was pissed but I found the whole thing a bit cringeworthy. ?

I think I might give Body Combat a go, otherwise I'll stick to simple running on the treadmill as my cardio activity of choice. At least I can listen to decent music! ?

Well, I think you'll find it different from Pump! Have you looked at it on the Les Mills site? I really didn't know what to expect the first time I went, but it's basically high impact aerobics to cool music, with tough abs and push-up tracks mixed in.

It really depends on your co-ordination, I'm usually a few steps behind everyone else, but I've seen worse attempts than mine. Just remember to take your sense of humour, and have fun ?

I did check out the website and it appealed to me - I need to add more cardio to my program and balance out the amount of weights work I'm doing. I usually pick up moves fairly easily so I figured if I stood at the front I might be OK? Are there lower impact moves you can switch too if you start flagging halfway through? And will I find it as addictive as Pump?

Yes, there are different levels - for example, instead of jacks you do sort of side steps, or just lower kicks. You should be fine, my philosophy is that as long as you're moving, you're doing some good ? and most people are too busy concentrating on what they are doing to worry about you.

Body Balance is more my speed. ? I do need to add another class though, but I'm a bit scared of Body Attack.

Oh NNN, why don't you still do it?

Somebody at the gym today suggested Body Jam but I didn't fancy that when I watched a clip on the interweb. I think I'm too old to do trendy dance moves. ?

I'll report back tomorrow on how I get on. I'm expecting it to be hard work!

Had pain in my knees and went to Docs and a sports therapist who have diagnosed tendonitis☹️.

Need to give up all high impact exercise for approx 6 months, take ibuprofen and get physio. (only found this out today)

I am gutted as I have lost all baby weight + a stone and had gotten the fittest I have ever been. Feeling really sorry for myself but need to do what I am told so I can get better quickly (not to mention the affect it can have in my job)

    Enjoy!!

I feel your pain NNN. I did my ankle in on Easter Saturday and was on crutches for six weeks and had physio for four months. I only joined the gym after the injury as a way of getting back into shape and shifting the weight I put on while I was sat on my arse. I can't imagine not being able to exercise now - I mean, I had a calf strain a few weeks ago and took a week out and it was sooo frustrating.

Think positive and the six month will whizz - just don't stuff your face like I did! ?

I really didn't like BodyJam as I'd done dancing for so long that I got really confused, because the moves in the class aren't the same as the dance steps. My current gym doesn't offer it though.

I love Body attack. You can take low options if you like and you don't need much co-ordination. It makes you sweat lots which is a good thing in my book.

I loathe jam, mainly because I can't do it and look like an utter arse when I try!

I do combat and pump - pump is my absolute fave and I love it to bits!!! Combat is good but I've had a few weeks out due to runners' knee. Our gym doesn't do attack though - does anyone do RPM??

Body Combat is good. I do struggle with our gym's class, it's run by a girl with a foreign accent and it's really hard to understand what she's saying so I feel like i'm spending most of my time struggling to hear her and keep up with what she's saying rather than working out, but if I could understand it'd be really good lol!

I was doing Body Pump for a couple of weeks, I really enjoyed it but I can't always get to the class because of it's time.

I'm really sorry you didn't like it. I've never whooped in my life so maybe your gym attracts more whoopers than mine? I love the hairspray track as it's sooo cheesey. Combat's good too but I prefer Attack.

Body Pump is the most popular class at my gym so most days there are two classes and there's also one on Saturday and one on Sunday so it's fairly easy for me to get two sessions a week.

I'll give Body Combat a try but it'll have to be next week now as I've already got a Personal Training session lined up for tomorrow and Friday is a well-earned day off. ?
