Any idea where to look for mens suits from the 50's

demree, 23 September, 2012 at 14:52 Posted on Planning 0 5

We are getting married in July 2014 and are planning a 50's style wedding, however we can not find any suits for male members in a 50's style

There used to be a shop called American Classics in London-dunno if it still exists. Try some U.S.A. mens websites-they do all styles, and shoes to match !

Were they straight-legged (narrow) trouser style suits? If so try M and S - they have a slim fit range that's lovely (my OH has one).. x

It depends on whether you're going for the British 50s look or more of an American feel. It's much harder to find mens 50s repro stuff, so it may be a question of keeping your eye on eBay/ vintage websites.

Zoot suits look nice - it depends on how authentically 50s you want to be though http://www.zootsuitstore.com/Shopping/Catalog/zootsuit.asp

    Good luck Smiley smile

    Zoot suits were 1940's..

According to the History of Men's Fashions:

In the 1950s, conservatism and conformity rule, with trim tailoring and similar accessories (hat, pocket square, cigarette, and martini) for just about everyone. Downtime sees the occasional glimpses of flair (shantung jackets, madras prints, Hawaiian shirts).

Why not just go for the slim fit tuxedo like the above (though maybe without the gold), sort of a rat pack image?

I know, it depends if you're happy for an overall *vintage theme* or if you want to stick to the 50s exactly Smiley smile

I like the tux, very rat pack!
