Hi there,

Me again, has anyone had their evening reception in portsmouth or know of anyone who has etc, just wondered if anyone can suggest anywhere I might not of thought of which can hold a large amount of guests. I have done the web searches and on here etc, just that sometimes, places are not always well advertised ?

I'm based in Pompey but we're getting hitched in Hayling Island.

There's the Marine barracks and more unusual places in Portsmouth like the Victory and Spinnaker Tower, or the Queen's Hotel which is gorgeous and large.

Hello! I'm Fareham but have looked in all of the surrounding area! There is mountbatten that holds quite alot, rugby club in Hilsea, golf club in Burfields, Southsea Castle, Warrior, Action Stations, Royal Maritime Club, Fort Nelson...really depends what you are after.

That Square Tower is amazing but only holds 50 ish for sit down in one room and 100-150 for evening they also haven't been able to obtain a late licence yet as far as I know so have to close at 11pm

Not far but we used the Beaulieu Hotel for everything, just south of Lyndhurst. That will take 200.

You can see everything about our day in our website in the signature below.

We have a list of suppliers on the site too if you're still looking for anything Smiley smile

If you are just looking for a reception then there are millions of places- most restauraunts, bars etc can cater for functions. It depends on the type of day you are having.

How large is large? The biggest we found was PFC,Langstone Hotel, Queens Hotel, Royal Beach Hotel, Marriot, Holiday Inn and the Hilton- all a bit beige though IMO.

We went to a gorgeous evening reception at Kitsch N Dior in Southsea- if I had my time again it would have been a serious contender. Also Brassarie 8 in Kings road is beautiful but I think it could only cater for about 60.

If you are looking for the whole caboodle in Portsmouth then goodluck! There are not many places- hence why we were married in Gosport!

You are totally right, Portsmouth is lacking in the wedding venue department! We got an evening guestimate of 200 but we are sure only about 150 to turn up.

The other problem with all the venues is the food!!!! What happened to all of the normal party food? Its all fancy or fish, I have quite a few kids coming and they aren't even going to look at it!

Thing is, im running out of time, my wedding is april!!! ARGHHHH

Food was my major problem I wanted somewhere I could take my own caterer as I didn't want the whole 3 course meal (i'm a fussy eater). We have gone for Explosion in Gosport because they had our caterers (The Tea Party) as a recommended caterer as do the Royal Marines Museum.
I think your best bet is a hall if you wanted to do your own catering!

    xx

    Hi

Just wondering but have you looked at any of the Forts on Portsdown Hill? I think Fort Purbrook and Widley can do weddings but can't find the exact capacity on their website. You can bring in your own caterers though which could abe a plus point.

Im getting married in Langrish House in Petersfield which is lovely but not sure if that's too far away from Portsmouth for you.

I hope you manage to find somewhere! :-)

I know Fort Nelson does weddings but you have to use their recommended caterers and the capacity is 80 for a sit down I believe. Not sure about the others though sorry!
