Any recommendations for sandy beach near Surrey and hotels in New York?

NickyNooNaa, 24 March, 2009 at 16:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

I haven't been on for a while due to being back at work and when not at work up to my eyeballs with two littl'uns, so apologies for jumping back in with a request!

Anyway, for my first request: my toddler loves to dig and loves the beach, does anyone know of any sandy beaches near Surrey? Obviously not walking distance or anything but I don't fancy driving hours and find we are somewhere rubbish. He wasn't even put off by the stoney beach at Brighton a couple of weekends ago and battled on with his bucket and spade making sandcasltes (stone mounds!). Not fussed about there being too many attractions etc, as long as there is a place to buy drinks/bite to eat.

Second request is for a decent/unusual hotel in New York? It seems H and I are going to get away for a few days in June/July. I have been to NY but have stayed with people or travelled in to NY from elsewhere.

Thanks

Totally forgot about Camber, went there quite a lot as a child, it is lovely. I can't place where it is, I'm sure it's not too far though.

Dare I say we don't actually have a budget but obviously we don't want to pay £1,000s a night! I suppose I mean unusual as in a bit different from your Holiday Inn or something. I've tried looking and the ones that have come up, ie boutique, haven't had very good reviews, but then I suppose you can't please everyone can you!

Last time we went to NYC, we stayed in a B&B instead of a hotel and it was brilliant. Each room was different, and had antique furniture. Plus, it was in Greenwich Village but cheaper than staying in some crappy hotel. Really, it was like staying in a hotel except that you got a little kitchenette in your room (fab for chilling wine!) The place is called Incentra Village and I'd thoroughly recommend it - we'll be going there again!

Look at the website I've posted, scroll down there's a map. I think it's not too far from Rye, I used to go there a lot when I was hanging round in Surrey.

That sounds great, never actually thought of going to a B&B. I'll check it out, thanks.

Oooo, lucky you! If I didn't have a budget, I'd stay here:

    http://www.thegreenwichhotel.com/

It has great door knobs (as I designed them).? Never been myself, but it looks beautiful.

I think it's very expensive, though so also good are 6o Thompson, The Bowery and The Rivington.

Depending on where you are in Surrey this may be closer than camber sands (and I think a bit nicer) https://www.westwitteringestate.co.uk/

We always went to Littlehampton when I was a kid, down the A29 along from Bognor Regis.

In NY we stayed at The Muse which was lovely - large comfortable rooms just off Times Square but no breakfast included so went to various diners/delis.

Ive got sun burnt more times at west wittering than on a hot beach holiday ? Only thing is that there isnt much other than the beach, carpark and loos (there is a restaurant) although there isnt much at camber sands either.

Thanks, they all look lovely and pricey too, not sure of my chances getting H to treat me that much even if I do stress that it would be an anniversary treat too....on the other hand, maybe he would!

We did try Littlehampton last year, TomTom said it wouldn't take long, roadworks said otherwise :o( It was nice though.

Thanks will have a look into West Wittering, have heard of it.

I will also check out The Muse in NY.

    Thanks for all the replies.

    This is a lovely beach!

Littlehampton can be quite stoney - and is not the most salubrious of areas!
