    Hi Ashil

I have been to Dreams La Romana, its amazing! It was our best holiday ever, we were thinking about going back for our honeymoon this year but it wasnt too long ago that we went so thought we'd try somewhere different for a change - but if it doesnt live up to DLR i will be disappointed!

The food was great, and so much choice (7 restaurants i think). Was a large resort so took us a while to find our way round, by the 2nd week we were still finding new restaurants which i loved! If theres anything in particular you want to know just ask! ?

    Thanks Hollie,

you've just reassured me its a good place! TA says its good anyway - we are going as a family - just 1child will be nearly 14 and hoping that it caters/entertains for them as well as us. (nice to have some our time).

Where would you recommend good to eat? we are quite liberal and will try anything? do you need to prebook anywhere?

what time of the year did you go?

    Loads of Americans?

    The accommodation?

The entertainment was usually really good, there was a circus type display which was brilliant.

We went at the end of august/beginning of september. There is the normal buffet restaurant (called world cafe i think!) which did a bit of everything and you didnt need to book, the food here we thought was great. The other restaurants: chinese, mexican, french, steakhouse, seafood and jungle you need to book but this was never any hassle. The steakhouse and french restaurants were the best, (these ones have a dress code of long trousers for the men) they were air conditioned which was lovely as the other restaurants arent and the time of year we went it was quite humid at night. You can eat in any of the restaurants as many times as you like there is no limit.

Another thing here which we found great compared to other all inclusives was that they also stock bottles beer: bud, corona etc and champagne in some of the bars which was included in the all inclusive. Although you have to get to the bottle beers quickly as the americans often hogged these and they had run out by the time we'd got there!

There were quite a few americans whilst we were there. Accommodation was lovely, nice big room and i think most were overlooking the pool and the sea which was nice.

The trips sold to us by Thomson/First choice were also good. We went on a half day trip to another part of the island to swim with sharks and stingrays which was great fun. We also vistited Samana island (which is where they used to film the bounty adverts) which was a nice trip on a catamaran to the island, stayed for lunch (little warning they try to grab you up for some caribbean dancing!!) and then a speedboat back to DLR. The trips are quite expensive but we enjoyed having a couple of days out.

There is a weekly 'market' set up in the resport where locals sell jewellery, paintings etc. Make sure you haggle down any prices they give you here! I would say to buy any souveneirs/gifts here or out of the resport as the ones in the resport shops are expensive)

The one thing i would say is take plenty of suncream and tablets i.e. immodium etc as they are very expensive in the hotel shop. i ran out of suncream in the last 2 days and had to pay $20 for suncream! ?

One last thing i would definately recommened if you want to, is TIP! we tipped our waiter on the first night, only $5 which isnt much but we were so glad we did! When we arrived at the restaurant each time after that, he had our drinks waiting and was constantly topping them up. We decided to tip again later in the week as we were so pleased with the service and the next night he gave us a bottle of champagne to drink in our room!

Sorry i have blabbered on, I hope you have an amazing time - i am soooo jealous!

    xx

Thanks Hollie, there is some great info on here (i've saved to look at nearer the time) we are already quite good about tipping and seeing the benefits but free champers! thats a good one! and the Suncream and imodium too.

trips sound good and we are going with Thomson/First choice too (we've upgraded the flights too)

I just hope there's enough daytime "entertainment" for 14 year old
