Anyone been to Ladram Bay, Devon?

FiddleSticks, 30 June, 2008 at 22:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

We are going to a Hoseasons Holiday Park there next week (oh the shame...!) and wondered if anyone has been there or near there? I have only ever been to Cornwall so have no experience of Devon really.

Any recs greatly appreciated

Don't recognise the name - north or south Devon?

Ah right - that's on the south coast but it's still quite a way from me. Budleigh Salterton is a lovely little village (or it was I haven't been for 15+ years).

Ok so what sort of things do you like doing? Beach / National Trust type places / animals / shopping?

Not so much shopping... We're taking our lo who is 18 months so will be looking for things to keep him entertained so beach/animals etc sounds great!

That's a lovely area, I love the dramatic coastline around the South Hams and Exmouth/Sidmouth.

Don't be ashamed, we quite often do the cheap holiday park offers in our local paper. The 'cabaret' clubs on the sites are usually very naff and quite expensive, so we just use the caravan as a base and spend our time in the local towns/villages.

Yes that's what we are looking at doing... We got a great deal - three of us, a big static caravan for less than £200 for the week! The holiday park has a massive indoor swimming pool too! We're only going to it because of lo...

Glad to hear its nice - we're hoping to go on loads of walks on the beach etc.

Well in that case, Paignton Zoo isn't that far away - it's great there. Um there are a couple of beaches up that way. Your little one is probably too little for Quaywest - an outdoor water park with slides but it's worth remembering!

According to the website there's tram rides at Seaton!

I've probably been to Sidmouth but I don't remember it. The beaches there are quite fun - the sand is more red than yellow due to something (I can't remember what) in the sand.

I would imagine that the site has a load of different tourist leaflets available. Dawlish probably has the baby ducks out. We're looking at going to Bicton Park which your lo will probably like. http://www.bictongardens.co.uk/

If I think of anything else I will post again.

Thanks Melawen. That's really helpful. He'll love baby ducks!! I always take him to feed the ducks when I'm at my mum and dad's - he comes home and all he says for about 2 days is "wack wack" trying to imitate the ducks!

Sidmouth's got the Donkey Sanctuary. There's the Beer Quarry Caves but your LO may not be interested in that!

Lyme Regis isn't that far away.

Budleigh Salterton is lovely, as is Bicton Park. There's Woodbury Common but think I may be coming to far towards Exmouth - Sidmouth is probably about 30 minutes drive from there maybe?

I bet he'll love the donkey sanctuary! I'm sure that boy's going to grow up to be a vet - he absolutely loves animals!
