Anyone doing their own hair and makeup?

Caitlin, 12 December, 2023 at 20:24 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 1 8

Anyone here planning on doing their own hair and makeup for the wedding? Any tips/Youtube channels I should watch? Im going for a more natural/soft look so I feel like myself and my bridesmaids can pull it off. 4/6 of us have curly hair and 2/6 have straight hair. I was even thinking of using those roller things you sleep in for the girls with straighter hair. Unsure on makeup yet!

Not sure about hair. But MU have you considered either you or one of your BM having a lesson? May help for the day and save a bit of £££. Some individuals MUA do classes for about £50 x

I’m doing my own makeup (not hair as I’d stress about it!), but a lot of the makeup tutorials I’ve watched (watched hundreds!) have a lot of makeup products involved so unless you’re the type that knows how to do your makeup well or wears a lot, id look up ‘simple 5 product makeup’ and such.

Practice and practice and practice! Leave it on all day and take pictures before & after, with and without flash and see if you like the products.

Look up Hannah Martin and Lisa Eldridge, both are great at tutorials and specialise in long lasting make up. Hannah Martin has done a couple of royal brides so knows her stuff, her book has a section on wedding make up.

I’m doing my own make up due to allergies, I have to be careful what I use, and have been watching both of the above. I’m also going to book a lesson at a Bobbi Brown counter to help me get the right colours. Then I’ll practise lots!

I’m doing both! I’ve practiced my hair and am not going OTT. Makeup, I went to John Lewis and spoke with the people on the makeup counters. I got lots of freebies (samples) to try and then booked in with an MUA at Channel (100% recommend). The best thing you can do though is to put effort into your skincare. Hydrated skin is much easier to make up! So have a look in your local TK Maxx for some skincare and start of really simple, then go from there Smiley smile hope this helps.

This helps! I also don't want to go over the top with makeup. Im watching a lot of Youtube videos and going to try my hand at it in a few months. Thankfully I'm only getting married in June 2025!

Yes, this is a great idea! I live in Toronto (but getting married in Northern Ireland), so I'm going to have a look at what makeup artists here offer in terms of a lesson.

    Hi all,
Yes, I will be doing both, I'm okay with makeup and my sister is an artist so she will help out if I need it but shes also the maid of honour so she will be busy on the day. I'm a big cry baby so I know for a fact that makeup will not last me the whole day and I will need to fix it, and I was quoted over £200 for makeup. I'm also doing my own hair, I know nothing about styling hair or anything like that but I refuse to pay over £100 just for hair, plus I wanted to have two different hairstyles during the day. I will be looking up the best products to use and what people recommend and the same for makeup.
