Anyone ever had Meningitis symptoms but turned out to be something else?

My son had meningitis symptoms when he was four. They hooked him straight up to IV antibotics and took bloods as an afterthought. Consequently we never found out what it was. I am very grateful that they didn't waste time though, so I have no complaints that they didn't take the bloods first. All I can say is that once the IV was in his rash disappeared very rapidly. It was odder than odd. He suffered no long term after effects.

I hope that your sister is okay. A lot of things can present a lot like meningitis when they are not. But either way if your sister is in hospital she will be receiving the best possible care.

I recently had what I thought sounded like meningitis- got to the doc for an emergency appt in the end, 4 days into the symptoms, and I was feeling rotten... Basically I had a sore neck, constant headaches, "funny" vision in that I couldn't look at the computer screen without getting dots in front of my eyes, as well as feeling weak/dizzy all the time. Let alone the sea-sick feeling all the time!

Turned out in the end, though, that I had viral infection called Viral Labyrinthitis (glorified ear infection ? ) and was signed off sick for 2 weeks. Also, I had an over-tensed muscle in my neck which was causing the headaches and the neck aches. Just overly stressed by the sounds of things.

Now, a few weeks on, I'm pretty much 100% again! ? so there IS such a thing as meningitis symptoms without it being that... I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's something similar to what I had...

Thanks everyone, she is on a drip so hopefully things will be ok. My parents are going to travel up to see her tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as she graduates in a few weeks.

When I was in my early 20's I was admitted to Hospital with suspected meningitis. Same sypmtoms, unable to move my neck could not be in a light room, basicaly like the worst flu you can imagine with a few lovely extras. They eventually ruled it out with a lumbar puncture (not nice). I can't remember what it was I had though.

OOOhhh Buckley, ive just had a text and a message from her BF on facebook saying she has had a lumbar puncture, it sounded painful...

Not nice bless her. But It is (I think) it is the only way to rule out meningitis. Hope she is ok and you get good news tomorrow x
