Anyone getting married midweek?

overtherainbow, 4 January, 2010 at 06:37 Posted on Planning 0 12

As some of you may know, our daughter got engaged recently and they are looking at venues. They mentioned about marrying midweek as some of the venues offer quite substantial discounts for this. They aren't particularly bothered which day they get married and, as most of the guests on both side of the families are either retired or not working, it's not much of a problem for us but I was thinking about their friends and getting time off work? Did anyone encounter any objections from guests or were they happy to book time off or throw a sicky!

As a guest, I wouldn't have a problem in principle, however in practice - it may not be easy to attend mid-week.

My holiday year runs from mid-year and so this year, I'm already having to take un-paid holidays for my honeymoon so holiday wise, I may not be able to get he time off to attend.

We're getting married on a Sunday, and friends have got married on a Friday - in terms of "fully midweek" - e.g. tues-thurs I think it depends how many people you want there - e.g. close friends shouldn't mind - and how far it will be to travel. I think a good rule of thumb is not to force people to take more than one day's leave - e.g. if you were getting married in Scotland on a Tues and your friends were from Devon they'd need to take the Mon, Tues and Weds off!

I think this ia a good point. Also if anyone has children then it may be difficult to arrange childcare.

Cheers everyone - most of the guests are local so we're lucky in that respect! There are only a handful of children, two will probably be flowergirls - her best friend is a man and he is going to be her Man of Honour - bless him! Your right Sher, there are lots of discounts for midweekers - Dad is smiling already!!!

Our wedding is on a Monday & have had no one out of all 120 guests say that they can't attend. Best thing to do is give them plenty of notice that it's on a week day. We sent our save the date cards out 1 yr before to give people a heads up.

Hi, we are getting married on a Thursday and several of our friends are staying overnight, no one has complained although one guest may have a problem getting the day off as he is in the Army. Most are making a weekend of it !!

We went to a friends wedding at the end of May last year & it was on a Friday, there were certainly plenty of people there & thiose that were there, seemed to like the idea of an extra long weekend break.

It was held at the Chevin Lodge Hotel just up near leeds bradford airport & was gorgeous. My hubby & I stayed in 1 of the wooden lodges in the woods there, we had a fabulous stay.

Our friends said that they saved a fortune by having the wedding during the week as opposed to the weeeknd

We're getting married on a Tuesday and hope it wont cause any problems. We're just waiting for our save the dates to arrive and when we send them everyone will have a years notice to get time off etc so it should be ok. it saves a lot of money!
