Anyone know any good family party games?

We're having a small gathering tomorow night, just five adults, 11 year old and a 14 year old and we need some really daft games to play!

The sillier the better please cos we need lots of giggles as it's my sister's first christmas/new year since her hubby of over 20 years left her out of the blue for another woman and it's been a tough year for the whole family.

    Cranium can be good fun or there's a similar one with playdoh too for the older younger ones is it Raidough or something like that?

    This game is hilarious! I've played it around 4 times at parties this year and can say it's the most fun I've had with a game.

    We bought Chalenj andit's areally good funny game. You'll need some space as even though you move around a board you also have to do physical challanges as well asmental ones (like hopping from one side of the room to the other etc.

    We played it with some friends last night and were in hysterics, I fully intned to get it out for our NYE party tomorrow

    Boppit is a good game. Its not your usual board game but good fun passing it round everyone and might be something that all ages like. (and is fun for the adults when playing drunk).

    We always play pictionary but with one of my nephews blackboards/chalk rather than pen and paper. We always have a laugh because the kids are usually better at it than us.

    At the in-laws we always play bingo (its a family tradition) but with loads of prizes. And usually give us a clue, which I hate, so usually sit it out.

    If you're thinking more cheap/free games here are a couple of good ones-

    Fill a mixing bowl with flour and turn it out onto a tray. Put a cherry/sweet on top. Each person has to take turns to slice some flour off using a knife. Someone will knock the cherry off eventually and they must get it out with their mouth.

    Get some gloves, a hat, a scarf and a coat. Get a big bar of chocolate and an ordinary knife and fork. People take it in turns to roll a dice. If they get a 6, they have to dress up in the stuff and eat as much choolate as poss. using only the knife and fork. Everyone carries on rolling and as soon as someone else gets a 6, they swap over.

    A drinking game which you could adapt with forfeits is fuzzy duck. Depends on how the parents are with their kids and swearing. You go round in a circle each saying fuzzy duck. Anyone can choose to change direction by saying ducky fuzz, then you go the other way, each saying that. Soon someone will say does he ***, they have to do a forfeit.

    We always play Topics..

    Pick different subjects like Boys Names, Girls Names, Capital City, Food, Item of Clothing, Animal, Car Make, Furniture, and so on, about 8 or so, then stab a newspaper to get a letter, and everyone has 1 minute to think of as many of the subjects beginning with that letter.

    Results in chaos everytime, we love it!

    Here's a few (party games are compulsory at my in-laws!)

    Dictionary game (this is like balderdash, if you have heard of that). One person looks in the dictionary to find a word they think the rest of the players won't know the meaning of. They read out the word and everyone writes a made up definition on a piece of paper then passes it to the person with the dictionary, who has been writing the actual definition down in the meantime. That person then reads out all the definitions (trying to make them all sound plausible!) and then people say which one they think is correct. People score points for guessing the correct definition, if someone guesses their definition or if their definition is very close to the actual definition. The person with the dictionary gets a point if no-one gets the actual definition. Then move the dictionary round as many times as you like!

    Consequences - everyone has a piece of paper and writes a man (famous or otherwise) at the top, then folds it over and passes it on, next person writes a woman, fold over, pass on, then it's a place, he said, she said, the consequence was. Then you read them all out - and they're usually funny.

    Who am I? - set up a load of post-its with different people / things - doesn't really matter. Stick one on everyone's back and they have to go around asking questions of other people to work out what / who they are. You can also do this so people end up paired up by giving them the names of couples e.g. Aladdin and Jasmine - they have to find out who they are and then who their partner is.

    Take 2 - With scrabble letters. Put them all face down in the middle of a table, everyone takes 5 to start with and everyone turns them over at the same time. The idea is to arrange them like a scrabble / crossword grid into words (so words have to share letters just like in scrabble). When someone has used all 5 letters they say 'take 2', everyone takes 2 more letters and again tries to use them all...continue like this until all the letters have gone from the centre and the first person has finished their grid - they have no letters left over. They shout stop and you all count up your scores, scoring letter values just like scrabble (and a letter counts twice if it's used twice etc.). Any letters left over, that you haven't used in your grid need to be subtracted from your score. We normally play up to 200.

    Corners game - this requires a bit of work beforehand as you need some multiple choice quiz questions prepared. Name each of the corners (e.g. snowman, robin, christmas pudding, cracker) and then read out the question, allocating one of the answers to each of the corners. People choose the corner they think relates to the right answer, if they're wrong, they're out...continue in this way.

    Heads and Tails - you toss a coin, beforehand guests choose if it's going to be heads (hands on their head) or tails (hands on their bottom)...everyone who is correct stays in for the next go.

    Consequences - each person has a piece of paper and a pen/pencil. You start with girls name, boys name, then where they met, what he said, what she said, what the consequences were. You pass your piece of paper round to the next person, folding it down as you go so they can't see what's been written. So person one writes the girls name, passes it to person two who writes the boys name, etc. You each do the same and then at the end you unfold them and read each one out. The sillier the better. (Not sure this makes sense written out).

    We also play a card game called Pit - you need the set of cards and its involves lots of shouting. But probably a bit late in the day now for buying this. And Cluedo and Monopoly - but that normally ends in a row.

    Or more active ones - Murder in the Dark or Sardines.

    Oh, also just remembered fizz buzz, which is a good drinking game and I also play with my year 5s to help them with times tables - you count up from 1 going round with each person saying one numberbut for every number in the 3 times tables you have to say fizz, for every number in the 5s (or 7s if you want to make it harder) you have to say buzz. If a number is in both e.g. 15 is in 5 and 3 times tables, you have to say fizz buzz.

    E.g. 1, 2, fizz, 4, buzz, fizz, 7, 8, fizz, buzz, 11, fizz, 13, 14, fizz buzz....etc.

    To help people get the hang of it we normally go back to 1 when someone makes a mistake.

    Also 21s - you can count in 1s, 2s, or 3s up to 21 round the circle. The idea is not to be the person who has to say 21, because then you're out.

    So it could go

    1....2,3,4....5,6....7....8,9,10....11,12,13....14......15,16,17....18,19.....20....21 etc.

    I've thought of more!

    Pin the tail on the donkey could be a funny one.

    The adverb game - send 2 people out of the room, the rest of you decide how you're going to act (has to be an adverb) e.g. happily, seriously, enjoyably, patiently, worthlessly - the sillier the better. The 2 people come back in and give you several scenarios to act out e.g. you're about to rob a bank, mum is the cashier, fred is the security guard etc. and you act them out according to the adverb you've chosen - the 2 people who were out of the room have to guess what the adverb was/is.

    Squeak Piggy Squeak - in the dark, one person is on, they grab someone, that person has to squeak and the person who is on has to guess who it is. You can play this a bit more sedately as who stole my pencil (or similar!) someone is on and stands with their back to everyone with a pencil in their hands behind their back, on person goes and 'steals' the pencil, the person who's on asks 'Who stole my pencil?' and the person replies 'I did' in a silly voice - the person who's on guesses who it is.

    Who's in the bag? - like articulate, you'd need to prepare in advance if you don't have a game already although you could probably do this easily by getting everyone at the party to write down 10 or maybe 20 people, things, places and then putting them all in a bag. You play in 2 teams - each time 1 person from the team has the bag and draws out a card at a time, has to describe the thing/person/place on the card without actions, or naming the thing or any part of it. The rest of that person's team has to guess what they're describing - 1 point for each one correct in 2 minutes. Up to you if you allow passing or not.

    Charades?

    Mallets Mallet

    (Its a word association game, you musn't pause, musn't hesitate or you get a bash on the head like this or like this and the one with the most bruises loses, look at each other and say blurrrrr, look at the camera and say blurrrr, you at home say blurrr)

    Yes I do remember the words and we are playing it tonight.?

    You could use an old cardboard tube from your xmas wrapping paper as the mallet or a hammer if you don't like the person ha ha

    Even though this is an old topic, I feel like responding. Charades: A classic game that's perfect for all ages. Players take turns acting out a word or phrase without speaking while the other players try to guess what it is

    Certainly! How about a hilarious game of "Human Knot" with air hockey table game ? Have everyone stand in a circle and reach across to hold hands with two people who aren't directly next to them. The goal is to work together to untangle yourselves without letting go of each other's hands. It's a fantastic icebreaker and bound to bring plenty of laughs as you all twist and turn to figure out the knot. Another fun option is "Charades," where players act out silly holiday-themed phrases or movie titles without speaking, leading to lots of comical moments and guessing games. Finally, you could play "Balloon Pop." Write fun and funny challenges or dares on small pieces of paper, place them inside balloons before inflating them, and then have everyone pop a balloon to reveal their challenge for the evening, ensuring lots of laughter throughout the night. Enjoy your gathering and bring on the giggles!
