The reason I ask is because I have been looking for a beetle to accompany our VW Campervan and was told to contact a new company in Chelmsford. THey have a van but its not ready yet, not sure if it will be for next year or not. Now I am happy to give you the details, and I am sure they are ok, especially as they appear to have done a few weddings this year. But it would only be fair to tell you the problem I had with them.

I contacted them in August 2008 about hiring a beetle. We are in Cambridgeshire, but believe it or not they are the closest place! Anyway, she emailed back saying that would be fine but she would need to work out a price based on the distance. A month went by and I had heard nothing, so I emailed again and got a reply basically saying sorry I must have slipped through the net and I would get a quote soon. I then got the following reply:

Hi V, Sorry for the late reply, it's just that we had been in discussion about whether to travel up so far as I've been doing alot of long distance weddings and the maintenance has become ever increasing. Therefore we have decided to maybe trailor the beetles as an option, unfortunately it would cost more money, and I'll have to pay another driver etc, however it's not impossible we can do that for you for £600 in the beetle cabrio which includes your champagne, choccies, chauffeur and of course ribbons & bows in your choice of colour, the ghia should be ready by then and would be the same price, although it's not certain whether we will transport the bus so far at mo, sorry look forward to hearing from you, kind regards, H

I thought that this price was far too expensive and also felt she hadnt really listened to my enquiry as I specifically said I am not interested in the bus at all and dont need the champagne etc as we will be in the campervan. I never replied to her email.

What was more weird was that a month later I got this emai:

Hi V, so sorry for the delay, you seemed to end up at the bottom of my email list for some reason, apologiesCambridge is quite a distance for our old Billy although he is capable, but it works out expensive at £420 which includes your chauffeur, champagne, choccies and of course ribbons & bows in your choice of colour, however, as you don't have a date I can give you more of an accurate quote when you do, just let me know. Also I can let you know about the karmann ghia next year and the bus as both are coming along nicely and should be ready for 2009, so I'll be taking bookings for 2010 by late spring I should think, sorry to be so vague its just hard to know with these cars when they are going to be ready, and it's having the money to get them completed etc so stay in touch and we'll chat in the new year if you like, thanks V, regards, Hayley x

So 2 completely different prices. But they could be completely fine and at the time starting out and unsure of costs etc.SOrry to waffle, but wouldnt want to send you somewhere and feel guilty for not saying anything if they let you down.

Hi there i've been in contact with a compnay called Special Day Cars, they cover all of the UK. I was considering a range of cars including a VW camper. they are currently buying a van (which they will have by Jan 2010) they said £365 for three hours chauffeur driven. In the end I went for the Aston Martin DB9 through them. Found them to be really helpful so they may be worth a try

    Hi,

We booked a campervan the other day after going to lunch with a friend who suggested them. They are called Deluxe Days I think it’s www.deluxedays.co.uk and the camper is gorgeous and there is plenty of room for my dress in the back I’m so excited!

They say on the website they cover the UK so you may be OK.

    Worth a look.

    Sarah.
