Anyone own a Nissan Micra?

Petunia, 28 January, 2009 at 21:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

Hi

I'm looking at getting a new (to me) car, and am considering a micra. Its the 1.2, 5 door, 04 plate model.

Anyone had/got one? Any pros and cons?

Thanks

Usually I'd say, it's a Nissan-they're bullet proof. But, they changed the engine in the later models and have had loads of trouble with the timing chains stretching. Last one we did cost £700, can be more than that though. Google nissan micra timing chain fault and you'll see what I mean!

We also had to replace the timing chain on ours, costing us over £700 and they wouldn't accept liability and told us it was the way we driving the car. We found out too late how much of a common problem it was, long after we really could have done something about it.

Cheers guys, looks like a common fault then.

When I'm in the garage I will see if it's had a new chain, and if not, will look at something else instead.

Are other nissans generally quite good then?

I have an elderly Micra P reg) and it's wonderful. My only complaint is that the driver's door handle and the plastic bit on the boot both broke, I haven't bothered replacing them though, I just got used to opneing the door with a sliver of handle. I love my Micra.

I had an older S-reg Micra, in fact it was my first car (used to work for them too). I loved it to bits. I got rid of it because of the finance deal I'd been suckered into rather than wanting to.
