anyone use a cap/diaphragm?

auldlangsyne, 30 November, 2008 at 18:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I'm thinking of getting one. i had one years ago and didn't like it (i think it was too big) but i know there are new kinds. i'm thinking a cap if i can get one, as they're smaller.

does anyone else use one?

I did for a while while I couldn't take the pill. I know what you mean re size- I had the smallest size diaphragm but it still seemed big and my husband could still feel it sometimes. I always found it a bit grim and off-putting. It's also not v effective compared to other contraception, I believe.

I'm not in the first flush of youth so not rampantly fertile. i hate the pill, it turns me into a libido free psychopath, and i don't fancy an iud. my husband was not the largest of men but he hit the edge a couple of times and the pain was indescribable. i was told i was imagining it by family planning staff.

I used it to space my children. Liked it a lot. Loved being hormone free, and could live with the reduced efficacy as we were always going to ahve another child. I never found it painful or a hassle - no more so than putting in a Tampax. I used a diaphragm.

I would use it again - I currently have a copper (hormone free) coil and it's ok so far though I do worry about heavier painful periods. (I've only had one period since my second child and it was ok).

I had a diaphragm for a while. I'm with Knownowt, it was weirdly offputting apart from the initial ho ho ho stage and my H could definitely feel it. FP said if he was feeling it then I wasn't putting it in correctly, which is fair enough, but it was the only way I could get it in, so it wasn't for us.

We now use depo provera injections - I don't know if that would be as much hormone coursing through to ruin your libido or make you grumpy - I find it suits me really well. Love not having to think about it

Depo makes my hair greasy, my skin spotty, i put on weight and i have zero libido. i suppose it won't hurt to go back to fp and give it a whirl.

We used to use the cap, had no problems with it at all, much preferred it to the pill. Id use it again.

Only thing I didnt like was sometimes when you put the spermicide on and it flings out of your fingers!

I used it briefly, but I had to near dislocate my wrist getting it out so gave it up pretty quickly.

I was going to get one but discovered I can barely reach my own cervix so decided probably better not to. Will be getting a copper coil fitted when I get round to it. Not ideal as it does give me heavier periods but we hate condoms and I don't want hormonal contraception.
