Anyone used Dave Spink photography

Mrsmcd2b, 28 November, 2010 at 13:02 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi,

As above really, just wondered if anyone has had any experience of him at all? I like the look of the website and his prices are reasonable but there's only one person taking photos on the day so wondered what everyones thoughts were on that?

Thanks

Technically there is nothing wrong with this. Do check though what sort of cover he can offer you if he is unwell on the day...

Always ask 'what if you're ill'

However, its the same for anyone. Often the second photographer in a team isn't as skilled as the primary one so if the primary goes down there needs to be a backup plan in place for them as well.

Ask them to explain their low prices compared to a 2k photographer though.

I have packages where I shoot on my own. I get asked what I would do if I was ill. Well, I'd have to be hospitalized in order not to turn up. In which case I would find a replacement even if I had to pay extra to get someone in. But I have a long list of people I could call, literally as long as my arm. Of which I'd probably pick two in order to cover everything...my illness shouldn't become your problem.

I haven't been off sick whilst being a photographer.

I most certainly would not consider that a problem. In fact I prefer it to two photographers, as a] they can get in your face a bit and very importantly b] it means that in a lot of photos you'll get people looking at one camera and other people at another.

    Pretty pointless.

I've never been to a wedding that had 2 TOGs, so I hadn't even considered it as an option.

Hope it wasn't an oversight on my part.

This post is too late to help with your wedding enquiries but i'd just like to respond to some raised points

On my website there are plenty of Testimonials plus if you follow the link to my facebook page you'll see hundreds of comments from happy customers.

Regarding cover and second photographers, there are 3 other photographers i can call on to assist or cover the day, although i've never been required to call on anyone to replace a sick photographer.

We do offer coverage from a second photographer if you require but we don't include it in our packages as most people don't require a second photographer so its an optional extra. All of our photographers are fully qualified and have plenty of wedding experience, we would never send anyone to a booking who had only just started out or anyone classed as a novice.

In Regards to Chris' comments the reason for my price structure is that i understand the wedding market and although i know i could easily double my prices i choose not to. I cover almost twice as many weddings as the average photographer and i believe that is not only down to my prices but also the quality and service they recieve. Little Professional Chris to comment on someone elses work and service and then stick in your own advert, espcially without checking the facts first.

If anyone would like to see any of my work or would like to ask me questions directly my galleries and contact details are on my website

    thanks

    Dave

    I think its a case of 6 and 2 - 3's

It all depends on the photographer / photographers, but thats why you go out and see them , sometimes 2 can be a bit too much, othertimes 1 might not be enough.

if you meet them and they both appear "were taking the pictures so you have to do as we say" then they obviously are going to be in your face where as if a photographer says "its your wedding we will do as instructed" then you know the photographer may be a little more relaxed about the day.

its all down to costs as well as 2 photographers will obviously cost more than 1 (if not then something isnt right)

Each photographer will know how they best work, I personally prefer to work on my own although I may sometimes have an assistant.

This is how I work in the main as well. My daughter does second shoot though whenever a requirement arises although she is mainly in the periphery getting shots without being noticed. It is interesting how a different angle on a same subject gives a totally different shot. If sole shooting, I get an uncle or aunt to take a picture of the couple whilst I shoot from an alternate angle........

I'm sure it depends on the individual photographers, but having been to weddings with 2 I can confirm that they were really annoying. Perhaps no so much in the bride and grooms face, but certainly in the way of everyone else.

I think a decent photographer should be much more stealthy.
