Just to warn you, tanning is a hitched sin, one of the worst. You might as well have just said 'I am intending to live under a sun bed for 5 hours a day whilst having colonic irrigation'

No idea about tan through swimwear, I assume it would work though as there are fabrics already that offer no sun protection, aren't there?

    I'm loving their FAQ: http://www.solartanthrusuits.com/faq.cfm

Apparently the swimsuits are equivalent to an SPF of between 5-10 yet "It would take a rather prolonged exposure on a mid summer day to get a sunburn". If I went out in the mid-day sun (in the summer, somewhere where I am likel yto just be wearing a swimming costume) with just SPF 10 on I would frazzle in a very short time indeed.

But I have an essay to write - I don't have time for this ?

I dont know anyone who has used these (possibly due to the Nana style prints?...) so not sure if they work. But what Im wondering is if the cups are reinforced surely the fabric will be thicker so you'll get paler boobs and the hems/straps are going to be thicker than the rest of the costume so will you end up with a tanned body and odd strap marks?

Stick to the false tan and a gorgeous trendy cossie.

Do they advise that you don't need to wear sun tan lotion? I'd be terrified of burning my boobs or my bum so would put SPF on anyway.

Personally I'd rather wear a nice bikini. I pull down the straps anyway and I don't wear clothes that could possibly show any other tan lines.

Sorry, but they look hideous. Not to mention incredibly dangerous.

I agree with the others, stick to the high SPFs and fake tans.

I think if someone wants to sunbathe/get a tan, that is their perogative. However, I do agree that it seems more dangerous as it is unclear whether you should use a suncream under the suit. Although thinking about it, I would use a suncream all over and then put on a swimsuit anyway

I don't put cream all over, Juts the bits which are out. So normal bikinis must be sun blocking right? I've very pale skin and have never burned my bottom, so they must be.

seems like a waste of cream?

I think I just find it easier to slather it on all over while naked and then put bikini/swimsuit on. Obviously once on I just reslather the uncovered bits

Is there anyone here who likes tan lines as they actually show that you have changed colour? ?

It doesn't actually happen to me much as I am too fair and slap on the SPF50 most of the time, but it always surprises me that most people don't like tan lines when I love them ?

Not that I have the figure for a nice bikini these days though... <sigh>

My parents took us on our hols when we were about 13 and 14, we went for a long walk along the beach and there was a man and woman sunbathing in a small cove, I did a bit of a double take and said 'dad, hasn't that woman got any knickers on'? To which my dad replies 'either that or she's wearing a furry bikini'.

As a teenager I thought it was hilarious but didn't quite understand why she'd worry about tan lines down there where it's not going to matter anyway. Odd.

Bet you're wishing you'd asked before ordering the damn thing now. ? I am massively para about skin cancer, but I don;t completely avoid the sun. As for attire, I prefer to go topless/ starkers on the nudey beach, factor 50 uva/uvb block, and I always always lie in the shade. I always still get some kind of colour from doing this, but never burn, plus i love the feeling of heat on bare skin.
